I received an update to the antivirus app from ProtectStar today and Malwarebytes flagged it as potential ransomware. I was threatened 2 days ago by someone threatening to send copies of messages and pictures to people they thought I was related to from 1 of those damn data broker websites. Most of them I had no clue who they were but some I did. So I need to know if this is a false positive or true positive. I can't shell out $1500 each time someone wants to blackmail me. Thanks for looking into this matter

Hi DV07, sorry to hear about the misadventures you've had recently.
The notification you shared identifies that an application you downloaded requires high and potentially harmful permissions, which is normal in the case of antivirus, and comes from a source whose reliability cannot be verified as in the case of an email or website.
Protectstar is a legitimate company and their product is not malware. If you downloaded the application from their official sources, you should not worry.

However, we cannot guarantee that the file you downloaded is legitimate and has not been compromised by third parties without analyzing it directly. So my very best advice is to download their app directly from the Google Play Store to avoid any worries.
