Cowpoke & Blender issues

Recommended Posts

I just thought I would chime in here. I also got this nasty little piece of malware as well, by visiting "The Blender Model Repository" which apparently was at one time a legitimate website.

I tried following the existing manual removal procedures for "Antivirus System PRO", but the files and reg keys called out within those guides (just did a search for "Antivirus System Pro removal") were not present.

My computer was able to boot in safe mode and I ran a full scan with malware bytes, but nothing was found. I restarted the computer again, and this time when Zone Alarm let me know that "COM Surrogate" was attempting to access the Internet, I let it hang there instead of answering yes or no. I noticed that the requesting application was actually called "asxksysguard.exe" . Google turns up nothing for this particular keyword, so I figured it must be new.

Because I let zone alarm hang the program, I was able to open other programs and the task manager without being foiled by the malware.. I opened regedit and deleted all entries containing "asxksysguard" . I then searched the computer for files of the same name and deleted them as well.

This seems to have worked... I haven't restarted the computer yet, so I suppose I should do that before declaring victory.

As an update,

After restart all was good.. Being a glutton for punishment I went back to the website to be sure I wasn't smearing their good name by affiliating it with this particular malware.. This time, two programs attempted to access the Internet, one called "tjmubs.exe" and the other one was called "fjxr.exe" . I denied both's request to access , killed their processes and then deleted the exes which were in the Windows/Temp directory.

So, Like a jackass, after successfully removing the Antivirus System PRO malware, I went back to the website that infected me just to double check.. Well, this time around I got some other nasty stuff, and both my IE and FF have been hijacked. After about a minute, most of the links within websites are rewritten to to direct me to some affiliate marketing stuff. The links are all prefaced with http://www.buyonlinedating.net...

Anyways, none of my tools have helped me remove this, and I don't see anything necessarily evil within the hijack this log.. but I thought it would be prident to let someone who knows what they are doing take a look.
