Not Responding

I have run both a full scan and a quick scan and once the scan gets to "Performing extra & heuristics scan" an infected object is detected. Within a couple of seconds after that, the scan stops working. No other objects are scanned, time elapsed stops working and I'm unable to click on pause scan or abort scan. I have to Ctrl, Alt, Delete to get out of the program. When I reopen it, there's no log or quarantine of the infected file.

Any ideas of what could be happening here?
