Browser Guard Question with Firefox

A month ago, a situation occurred which continues to confuse me. This occurs with Firefox on a desktop and premium MB, but no VPN. I've started to use 1Password.

Before I begin, I want to say upfront, thanks to MB BG, I HAVE BEEN SPOILED by not having to endure commercials. I got used to it and liked it. This now creates a problem. The site is Hulu.

Suddenly, Hulu would not accept a log in that has remained unchanged for several years. I changed my password (to a fantastic one) and still nothing. YET.....

On an older desktop, using Windows7 with MB BG, uBlock, etc. I am able to log in without a problem. Granted, there are no saved passwords there. My process each time is to search for Hulu, land their page, click log in and enter each credential manually. Checking and double checking because I refuse to pay for an ad free experience.

This process also works with Chrome on the Chromebook.

The Chromebook and my phone occupy the remaining premium MB seats. So what the heck is going on with the Firefox log in? Error messages returned are: NO address found, or your username and password are not correct.

I've tried Safari, but their SafeGuard blocks functionality. If I disable that, commericals happen. I haven't used Sarari much and don't know if I am install BG there, but would expect the same result. It appears that the strength and persistence of advertisers is winning out over user choice.

Not exactly.

With Firefox and Windows 11,  Hulu is not accepting my password with BG is enabled.

I have not yet tried to disable it.

Safari does not have BG installed, but does have a similar proprietary program called"Brave Shields." When I disable that, I have access to the player and the normal commercial breaks 4-5 times in 45 minutes.

Chrome with BG allows me to log in and watch without commercials. This occurs only with Windows 7 on an old custom desktop and also on an Asus Chromebook.

Thank you for your response.

Try turning off just the BG adblocking for that site.

I have noticed myself that on certain website logins the adblocker component will prevent either cookie warnings or bot checks (even if you don't see them some sites do automatic bot checks and throw up a CAPTCHA if not sure) - which then prevents you from logging into that site.

It's not just BG, other Adblockers can have the same effect with certaim websites.

Thanks anyway. I wish I didn't like Hulu, but it's been a digital pacifier for about a year now. Silly, soapy stuff.  I've been waiting about a month between my trial efforts to get back with the Dell, but there is a persistent issue going on. I guessed it might be MB BG, but that is not the case. It may be something with their own log in.

Years ago, when I first got Spotify, it was bundled with that. Around the same time Hulu problems started Spotify log in failed too. I was able to stay logged into Spotify on my phone or the Chromebook, but for the Dell, I had to go to Safari.

These concurrent problems made me suspect that perhaps it's a problem with the back end somewhere, and I just happened to be caught in it. Along with lots of unknown others.

Yes, there is hope, at least for you. The next step is trying an old password. I don't see how that could possibly work, but who knows. Occasionally, I've had a situation where one device allows me to log in with a current password and the same site on another device accepts an older password. 🤨

Nope. No dice. OK, I think I've exhausted efforts here. Thanks for the suggestions.

Yes, at least on my trial run of Safari, spending time on the phone with support, they didn't mention it by name, but they said their site only works with certain browsers. I'd have to do a deep dive into my file to drag that up. Relay conversations save transcripts of all call. Before my credit union got on the ball, their chat button didn't show up in Firefox, only another browser. Now, all is well, but for places that are a bit behind the times, you can luck out by trying other browsers.

Funny you should mention this. I just deleted a comment about Edge. Bottom line: Never, never, never, never, never. I have a physical reaction when I land on their page!!!!! 🤣 Perhaps I've read too much!

There's a lot of Chrome bashing here, but sometimes it can't be helped. Obviously, Chrome and Chromebook permits Hulu with no ads. So I drag this itty bitty device around or park myself in the bedroom to watch on a custom PC.
