Cannot access the internet

Recommended Posts

I have tried everything I could think of from running Malwarebytes to DNS flushing and still I cannot access the internet with laptop that is otherwise working - not with IE or Firefox - I ran Malwarebytes with fairly recent updates and had 11 infections which it fixed for me, but I still cannot get online to update the definitions or to do anything else. I have a HijackThis log, plus the Malwarebytes log, but will only give you the HijackThis log for now unless you need the other as well. I do not recognize some of these programs (this is a friend's computer) so I don't know if they are causing this. If I am in the wrong forum, I apologize, I didn't know where else to go. Thank you for your help. Diane

Hi,

* Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:

Post the log from ComboFix in your next reply.

Please make sure you disable ALL of your Antivirus/Antispyware/Firewall before running ComboFix..This because Security Software may see some components ComboFix uses (prep.com for example) as suspicious and blocks the tool, or even deletes it. Please visit HERE if you don't know how.

Also, did you set this one?

Hi,

Your problems dont appear to be a malware related problem though.

So you don't have any Internet Connection on this computer?

Can you post the log from Malwarebytes where it shows the detections?

Also do the following..

Go to Start -> run and enter ncpa.cpl in order to open your Network Connections.

Right click on your default connection, usually Local Area Connection or Dial-up Connection if you are using Dial-up, and left click on properties. (write the settings down, just in case)

Then,

Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio button that says Obtain DNS servers automatically.

Click OK twice, and restart your computer.

Here is my Malwarebytes log, before I ran ComboFix.

I also tried the steps for the automatic dns obtaining and it did not work. My main problem is I cannot get online with IE or Firefox. And when the system restarts it also states that the 'card reader' cannot be found. Not sure what that is, or what to do about it either.

Hi,

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.34

Database version: 1749

Windows 6.0.6001 Service Pack 1

Can you please update?

Also, this rather looks like a hardware related problem here. For your card reader issue, I suggest you post on the Toshiba forum here: http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/index.jspa since they are familiar with these issues and know how to fix it.

For your internet connection, it could be possible that it's because of that as well.

Also, it could be your wireless that is misconfigured. I'm pretty sure, when you would use direct connection (wire, instead of wireless), you will have connection. So that's why it may be a good idea to reset your wireless.
