MacOS Sequoia and Malwarebytes

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I recently updated one of my computers to MacOS Sequoia. I have the unpaid version of Malwarebytes which was installed prior to my operating system update. I have a couple of questions:

1. I read a couple of forum posts about the compatibility of Malwarebytes with MacOS Sequoia (the answers about compatibility seemed inconclusive). I checked for updates and I was told that my version of Malwarebytes is up to date at the time of this posting (version 5.6.0). Are there still any compatibility issues between MacOS Sequoia and the latest version of Malwarebytes?

2. When I opened my computer earlier today, I got a system popup notification about Malwarebytes. It was asking for some kind of system permission and gave me the option to "Allow" or "Don't Allow". I accidentally clicked "Don't Allow" before I could read the notification and what it was asking. Can you give me a checklist to make sure I didn't disallow something important?

Help would be much appreciated!

Thank you,

-Sam

Malewarebytes only asks for things that it needs in order to protect you, so you will need to correct your mistake in settings or by reinstalling v5.6.0 or any newer version that has been released after today.

Hi @SamuelMorgan

  1. If you've updated to Sequoia macOS when you had Malwarebytes installed - there are no compatibility issues. Starting from 5.5.4 (Sep, 16) all new installations are fully compatible with the new macOS.

  2. If you have a free version of Malwarebytes, the closest thing that fits your description would be the system notifications permissions. To make sure you don't miss any product alerts we recommend enabling notifications.
You can do it by opening System settings -> Notifications -> scroll to find Malwarebytes Agent -> and toggle the "Allow notifications" on.

I hope this helps.

Thanks @Aryna!

I think what the notification was asking is if Malwarebytes could find and connect to other devices on my network. Another application on my computer asked the same thing, and Malwarebytes Protection was on the list of applications that had requested the same permission.

I don't see why I would need to allow Malwarebytes to connect to other devices on my network. Is it ok to leave this disabled as long as my protection score is at 100%?

Regards,

-Sam

Hi Sam,

Does it look like a notification you've seen? If so, then clicking "Don't Allow" should not affect any of your security. This is a new macOS Sequoia network security functionality, we are actively monitoring its impact on various components of our product. We will communicate if any additional action will be required. So far, you are all set!
