Advanced Antivirus Remover

Recommended Posts

Hello, I've tried everything to rid myself of this advanced antivirus remover program. I thought I was finally done and was going to use system restore but apparently there is a new admin account that has disabled me from using it to go back. At times my task manager is disabled as well as starting any programs. I get constant bad image errors as well. I read the sticky and here is my log from hijackthis. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. Take care!

Hi,

Go to this page.

Enter the url of this thread in the first field.

Where it says, browse to the file that you want to submit, click the browse button next to it and browse to next file:

C:\Windows\system32\AsusUpd.exe

Select it and click ok:

Then click the Send File button below.

Also, I notice from your log that there's more than 1 Antivirus installed. McAfee and Norton/Symantec.

Never install more than one Antivirus and Firewall! Rather than giving you extra protection, it will decrease the reliability of it seriously!

The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, your system may lock up due to both software products attempting to access the same file at the same time.

Also because more than one Antivirus and Firewall installed are not compatible with eachother, it can cause system performance problems and a serious system slowdown.

So you have to make a decision here and keep the Antivirus you prefer and uninstall the other one.

Then reboot after uninstalling.

I also suggest that you backup any data that you don't want to lose, this just in case, because if I read the intro of your post, it looks like a lot of damage has been done already here which may have as result that your computer suddenly won't boot anymore because of the damage. So, this to be on the safe side.

Then, * Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Post the log from ComboFix in your next reply.

Please make sure you disable ALL of your Antivirus/Antispyware/Firewall before running ComboFix..This because Security Software may see some components ComboFix uses (prep.com for example) as suspicious and blocks the tool, or even deletes it. Please visit HERE if you don't know how.

I could not locate that file you instructed me to send to bleeping computer.
Ok, to make sure if it's really there or not...

* Please download the Suspicious File Packer from here:

http://www.safer-networking.org/files/sfp.zip

Unzip it to the desktop and run it.

Paste the following bold part into the Suspicious File Packer window:

C:\Windows\system32\AsusUpd.exe

Allow SFP to pack the file. This will generate a CAB archive on your desktop.

Go to this page.

Enter the url of this thread in the first field.

Where it says, browse to the file that you want to submit, click the browse button next to the second field and browse to the CAB archive that was been created on your desktop.

The cab file will be called requested-files[*].cab (the * stands for the date and hour).

Then click the Send File button below.

Done. Thank you for all your help so far as well!

Ok, you're correct. The file was indeed not present anymore :(

* Download: HostsXpert

Unzip hoster to an own folder, eg C:\HostsXpert

Start HostsExpert.exe, click 'Restore MS Hosts file' and click OK.

Then, please update MalwareBytes, because it has been updated...

  • Start MalwareBytes and click the Update tab. There click "Check for updates"
  • Once the updates are downloaded, perform a quick scan again.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log, then we'll proceed from there with new steps.

Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

I still can't use system restore, looks like it created an admin acct and disabled it.
How do you mean? XP has a built in admin account though.

Do you get an error when you open System restore? Or what do you get?

Anyway, I want to have an extra check, so can you also perform my instruction with Combofix I previously posted?

* Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Post the log from ComboFix in your next reply.

Please make sure you disable ALL of your Antivirus/Antispyware/Firewall before running ComboFix..This because Security Software may see some components ComboFix uses (prep.com for example) as suspicious and blocks the tool, or even deletes it. Please visit HERE if you don't know how.

Hi,

Combofix deleted some leftovers here...

* Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

ComboFix /Uninstall

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /

Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

Then, Open notepad and copy and paste next present in the quotebox below in it:

(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4)

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run-]

"stezinit"=-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]

"AsusUpd.exe"=-

Save this as fix.reg Choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.

It should look like this: reg.gif

Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.

Let me know in your next reply how things are now.
