The dashboard is offering you to upgrade to it. You do not have to upgrade. Not lying, it is a static portion of the interface. That part of the MB GUI only is an upgrade option not any actual representation of your connection status. I hear you though. There are many requests for that part of the GUI to be able to hide it in both the Mac and Windows versions. It is still under review by the developers. Link to post
