Classic Fell for "try my game" discord scam

Recommended Posts

To explain my friends account was compromised and they got me hook line and sinker, I've gone through and run windows defenders scans multiple times, and almost immediately disconnected my wifi and power when I realized what happened.

I've already got my discord account back (thanks discord) as they tried to ransom me for it. it's something called Mazenubeta  was the game in question, I don't know what exactly it injected into my system, but I've uninstalled Opera GX, Chrome, Discord, Steam, and anything that might have any data of mine before reinstalling. I have already changed my passwords and got my bank data reset so I think anything they got on me is virtually useless now (I think) and I ran a malwarebytes can and just reset my PC but I also just did an ADWcleaner scan and a FRST scan after that reset tho.

I did check all of my files and thoroughly and found several folders related to the name of the actual thing injected into my PC and deleted all of them and uninstalled it before and most of this was done before even deciding to reconnect my PC to internet, I'm trying to be absolutely thorough without having to do a full reinstall of windows, I just wanna be thorough so if I need to redo anything and send any logs y'alls way just to be absolutely sure that my PC is safe to start installing and logging things in again, I'll do whatever I just need to make sure that my PC is clean.

something tells me I'm already good at this point but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I'm sorry to hear this @ZenlessZoneZia.  This Forum has had numerous reports of similar "try my Beta game" scams resulting with data and password harvesting and accounts then being compromised.

Do you still have the message with the link to download and maybe a password if that too was provided ?

Thank you.  I and Malwarebytes' staff are cognizant of that.  it is pushing the Ageo Stealer and Nova Sentinel/Nova Stealer variants programmed using Electron.  The malicious actor has multiple Blogger sites pushing these stealers used in conjunction with GitHub accounts.

I'm sorry but I can not give any more details other than blame Google as this monopolistic $ 2 Trillion valuated company does not care that the Free services they provide are used to distribute malware.

All good, in the end I fell to human error and decided to try to get over trust issues that day and trust my friend although I now know his account was compromised, I shouldn't let this kind of thing happen again in the future, but for now I just need to make sure it didn't leave anything left over and whether or not I myself have done a decent job of removal of it. had I had malwarebytes installed a few days ago instead of trusting just windows defender, it might've alerted me of the links problem.

Welcome smile.png

I'll be helping you with your computer.

Please read this post completely before beginning. If there's anything that you do not understand, please don't hesitate to ask before proceeding.

Please take note of the guidelines for this fix:

  • Please note that I am a volunteer. I do have a family, a career, and other endeavors that may prevent immediate responses that meet your schedule. Do note that the differences in time zones could present a problem as well. Your patience and understanding will be greatly appreciated.
  • First of all, the procedures we are about to perform are specific to your problem and should only be used on this specific computer.
  • Do not make any changes to your computer that include installing/uninstalling programs, deleting files, modifying the registry, nor running scanners or tools of any kind unless specifically requested by me.
  • Please read ALL instructions carefully and perform the steps fully and in the order they are written.
  • If things appear to be better, let me know. Just because the symptoms no longer exist as before, does not mean that you are clean.
  • Continue to read and follow my instructions until I tell you that your machine is clean.
  • If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to ask before performing the task that I ask of you, and please wait for my reply before you proceed.
  • Scanning with programs and reading the logs do take a fair amount of time. Again, your patience will be necessary. smile.png

Some driver updater tools, including Driver Easy, might be bundled with other software or exhibit behaviors that trigger security software alerts. If you do not trust Driver Ease, I would suggest you remove:

Driver Easy 5.8.1 (HKLM\...\DriverEasy_is1) (Version: 5.8.1 - Easeware)

C:\Users\Alexis\Documents\AmaRecTV Live has also being flag by Dr. Web Cureit!. I don't find anything wrong with this program. Perhaps it is due to the same issues.

Will wait for the reports suggested by AdvancedSetup for a final recommendation.

Good Morning/Evening at this point, the Malware bytes scan took several hours but everything else seemed to have finished up pretty quickly from there.

Here are the updated logs, and I'll be awaiting next steps.
