Make backups of your data to an external USB drive. Then disconnect that backup drive and keep it disconnected until the next time you do a backup.

If you keep the drive enabled - most ransomware can reach anywhere you can reach. In many cases even Online in the Cloud. If you can access it just assume that the ransomware can also.

Keep the external drive disconnected. Never connect it to a computer you suspect of being infected.
