ChuckM6421 Posted June 24 ID:1644961 Share Posted June 24 (edited) I think I've pinned down that the Browser Guard extension is breaking Disqus on a couple sites on the Firefox browser. For example: https://www.mediaite.com https://www.rawstory.com/ It's not clear to me where one would whitelist these sites or Disqus as the extension has no configuration setting. I also cannot see where to read logs that might point to the culprit. But I can plainly see that when I disable it, everything's fine. When I re-enable it both sites are broken. I have done a refresh of Firefox, disabled any other plug ins (also using uBlock Origin and Privacy Badger, but have disabled them as well). Please advise. Porthos Posted June 24 ID:1644962 Share Posted June 24 Try the following. If you're having issues with Malwarebytes Browser Guard you may want to try to update the program manually. Click on the extension icon If you can not see the Browser Guard icon in the browser toolbar, click the puzzle icon and unhide or pin the icon. Click the Kebab Menu -> then Support Click the Check for database updates button If still having an issue then click Clear Browser Guard Storage, Restart the Browser, and check for Database Updates again 1 Link to post
ChuckM6421 Posted June 24 Author ID:1644967 Share Posted June 24 Done, no change. FWIW, I notice that on the MediaIte site, they have thumbnails to articles with a comment count. If I click on the comment count it will usually (not always) open up the article page and the Disqus component. But going to the article and then clicking on "Comments", nothing. Again, disabling the MalwareBytes extension returns all to normal. On the Raw story site there are no comment counts on the main page with the article (as is normal there), and no "Comments" button on the article page. Disabling BrowserGuard returns it to normal. You can whitelist by toggling off the protections while on a specific site. Link to post
ChuckM6421 Posted June 24 Author ID:1644972 Share Posted June 24 Thank you, disabling Ads/Trackers fixed it. 1 Link to post
Solution Pickwick Posted July 9 Solution ID:1647989 Share Posted July 9 It seems to be a false positive blocking of Easylist, the primary list of ad-blocking filters that most ad blockers use. This would appear to be fairly recent. This apparently prevents Disqus comments from displaying comments. If you're using MBG and an ad blocker, the fix for now is to turn off Ads/Trackers in MBG for the site where the comments are blocked or accept Easylist in the list of blocked items for that site. Other Disqus users have observed this problem and the solution. Link to post
