Malwarebytes block but can't find and remove

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I installed Malwarebytes because for a few days already (without success to find why and how to delete) my browser opening random tabs.

The program can block the redirection but can't find the source and delete it.

The link the program is blocking is as follows:

https://www.pop-broker.com/?FORM=nwlcjpop&subid=GPR&bucket=CJ_2024-06&q=MYGXhctrCXvL-0,64&cid={F6FC5D26-8777-4B50-8028-CCEDB1F2B3B9}

I though that "F6FC5D26-8777-4B50-8028-CCEDB1F2B3B9" is maybe a registry item but couldn't find nothing... and the program not helping as it still just blocking and not deleting :(

Please if someone can help with this i will be forever grateful!

Hi @AdvancedSetup,

Thanks for the reply!

The tabs are opening in random times, do you want the logs after it opened or there is no matter?

I did the first step a few times as i tried to uninstall and delete all local files of chrome (program files and  program files(x86) dirs), do i need to do it again before starting the scans?

It looks like that scan comes back clean now. Let's go ahead and run an AV scan from Microsoft

Let's go ahead and run a couple of scans and get some updated logs from your system.

Please read the entire post below before starting so that you're more familiar with the process

[ 1 ]

Please make the following system changes.

  • Temporarily disable your antivirus real-time protection or other security software first only if it blocks or interferes with the scans or downloads.. Make sure to turn it back on once the scans are completed.
  • Temporarily disable Microsoft SmartScreen to download software below only if needed. Make sure to turn it back on once the scans are completed.

Microsoft Safety Scanner

I suggest a new scan for viruses & other malware. This may take several hours, depending on the number of files on the system and the speed of the computer.

The Microsoft Safety Scanner is a free Microsoft stand-alone virus scanner that can be used to scan for & remove malware or potentially unwanted software from a system.

The download links & the how-to-run-the tool are at this link at Microsoft

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/threat-protection/intelligence/safety-scanner-download

Look on the Scan Options & select the FULL scan.

Then start the scan. Have lots of patience. It may take several hours to complete.

  • Once you see it has started, take a long long break;  walk away.  Do not pay credence if you see some intermediate early flash messages on the screen display.  The only things that count are the End result at the end of the run and saved in the log.
  • The scan may take several hours.  Leave it alone. It will remove any other remaining threats as it goes along.  Take a very long break, do your normal personal errands .....just do not use the computer during this scan.

This is likely to run for many hours as previously mentioned  ( depending on the number of files on your machine & the speed of the hardware. )

The log is named MSERT.log  and the log will be at C:\Windows\debug\msert.log

Please attach that log with your next reply.

It is normal for the Microsoft Safety Scanner to show detections during the scan process.

It is scanning for basically all bread crumbs or traces of files and registry entries that "might" be or have been part of some infection or previous infection.

That DOES NOT mean the computer is infected. Once the scan has been completed it uploads the log to their Cloud service which then uses Artificial Intelligence to determine if in fact any of the traces are an infection or not.

Then it writes into the log on your computer what it found and did.

Thank you

I opened my PC to check your answer and i got a popup again...

The scans looks clean but there is something here.. before you told me about adwCleaner scan the Malwarebytes scans were "clean".

Please tell me what to do in this situation. i didn't do the Farbar scan yet, should i do it and then the AV scan?

I don't understand if by "smart screen" you meant Edge or windows smart screen (the guide is out dated)

Waiting for your answer before proceeding, log of the popup attached

I'm sure that google chrome is clean as i did the restore to default with deleting all the data a few times, i even reinstalled chrome with deleting all local folders from "program files" and "program files (x86)" and i cleared google sync.

The thing is Malwarebytes indeed block the prosses but not finding it when scanning.

I did the FRSTE and MSERT scans, logs attached. looks as it can't find anything...

The process was blocked 3 times during MSERT scan, didn't use the PC during the scan as you guided.

This is not a normal TEMP path but it appears to possibly be in the path because Windows Defender is finding issues with it to include Trojans.

If there are NO files or other data in that folder that you want I would highly suggest you delete everything in that folder.

Please run the following fix

NOTE: Please read all of the information below before running this fix.

  • NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on this particular machine.
  • Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system that cannot be undone.

Once the fix has been completed, please attach the file FIXLOG.TXT to your next reply

Farbar program:   FRSTEnglish.exe

Save the attached file:  FIXLIST.TXT to this folder C:\Users\Mike\Desktop\

NOTE. It's important that both files, FRSTEnglish.exe, and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

Please make sure you disable any real-time antivirus or security software before running this script. Once completed, make sure you re-enable it.

Run the Farbar program with Admin rights and press the Fix button just once and wait.

The fix may possibly take up to 60 minutes to complete

If the tool needs a restart please make sure you let the system restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart.
The tool will make a log named Fixlog.txt in the same folder you ran the Farbar program from. Please attach that log on your next reply.

  1. NOTE:  This fix will run a scan to check that all Microsoft operating system files are valid and not corrupt and attempt to correct any invalid files. It will also run a disk check on the restart to ensure disk integrity.
  2. NOTE: As part of this fix all temporary files will be removed. If you have any open web pages that have not been bookmarked please make sure you bookmark them now as all open applications may be automatically closed.
Also, make sure you know the passwords for all websites as cookies may possibly be removed in some cases, but not all cases.
  3. NOTE: As part of this fix, it will also reset the network to default settings including the firewall. If you have custom firewall rules you need to save please export or save them first before running this fix.

The following directories are emptied:

  • Windows Temp
  • Users Temp folders
  • Edge, IE, FF, Chrome, and Opera caches, HTML5 storages, Cookies and History
  • Recently opened files cache
  • Discord cache
  • Java cache
  • Steam HTML cache
  • Explorer thumbnail and icon cache
  • BITS transfer queue (qmgr*.dat files)
  • Recycle Bin

Important: items are permanently deleted. They are not moved to quarantine. If you have any questions or concerns please ask before running this fix.

The system will be rebooted after the fix has run.

I have question about few lines from the fixlist, i understand that the first thing it's doing is deleting classes (would like to know what they represent), then it's deleting .dll s

I don't understand the following:

The first one, is it on my PC? because i don't think i have something in Arabic here....

The second is the issue, what does this line do?

The first part of your own system is uploading a file to verify if it's a Trojan or not. It currently resides in a folder it does not belong in. Then later on in the script it will be deleted.

The Class ID, or CLSID, is a serial number that represents a unique ID for any application component in Windows. In practice, this means all registry entries for an application component can usually be found under the registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{CLSID value}.

Without link to a file most extra values are not needed but there are some uses at times. Some malware uses that complexity to hide as well

The Arabic entry you see is what is called an Alternate Data Stream which is a stream of data that can be added onto a file but is hidden from the user. Thus you're right you are not aware that it's there just as sometimes malware or Trojans can be there without you seeing them and why we run scanners to try to locate them for you.

The others are stopping certain entries from loading when the computer starts. Often some are not true threats but are often useless and consume resources for little to no value.

The on Task is in fact an entry that the AV scanners did not detect but the log shows it there. It is a FAKE entry. The script will remove it and I've alerted our Research Team about it as well so they will add an entry to Malwarebytes that will remove it on any other system it now sees it on.

Please go ahead and run the script as requested

The program is up to date and the scan is clean, the site that getting blocked was with the previous pop-broker but the current one happens in longer time differences.

BTW, pop-broker didn't jump from the time i did the fix, i'm still following it and update if it will jump
