Yet another vbAccelerator SGrid II Control problem

Recommended Posts

Since installing Malwarebytes 1.41, I have begun receiving the error: Runtime error 13: Type Mismatch from a vbAccelerator SGrid II Control popup when I close Word 2002.

A google search for "vbAccelerator SGrid II Control" turns up Malwarebytes more often than for it to be a coincidence, and in fact, in your "Fixes for common problems" thread (http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=10138&hl=vbaccelerator ), a solution is offered for a similar error (runtime error 0 in a vbAccelerator SGrid II Control popup.

My first attempt to solve the problem was to uninstall Malwarebytes. After doing so, both starting and closing Word 2002 gave me the error "Could not load an object because it is not available on this machine." This error is often associated with Excel, which is not installed on my machine.

Then I tried to repair Word, but the error did not go away.

So I reinstalled Malwarebytes, and the vbAccelerator error reappeared.

Then I followed the steps in the fixes for common problems post. I ran the MBAM fix.bat, I checked that regsvr32.exe exists, and I downloaded and installed the Microsoft Visual Basic Common Controls.

The error still shows up.

Then I registered myself on the forum - with some difficulty, because the forum blocks addresses from my provider, web.de. (thanks for throwing stones in my path) - and now I would like to express my displeasure that installing Malwarebytes continues to cause a known problem, and would like to know I should go about fixing it.

My OS is Windows XP Professional SP3

Greetings daal and welcome :)

I'm sorry you've had these issues. Please try installing the following to see if they correct the problem for you:

If that does not correct it then please follow the instructions in this post (please make sure you reboot after each step as instructed).

Please let me know how it goes.

Thanks :)

Thanks for your response. Before I try installing the VB service pack and update, does it make a difference that I have a German OS? (the updates are english) I have no idea what Visual Basic components are already on my machine.

You might need to reboot your PC after installing the first one and then try installing that one. Please try that and let me know if it works.

Thanks :)

No, I'm afraid not. It still says that in order to install the cumulative update I must have Visual Basic 6.0 installed.

I have also now removed Malwarebytes as per the instructions in the linked post (first uninstalling, rebooting, then running the cleaner, then rebooting again) and now I am back to Word giving the error:

"Could not load an object because it is not available on this machine."

Certainly something going on there. The only relevant link I found regarding this particular error "Could not load an object because it is not available on this machine" is here but I'm not sure how helpful it is to you.

As for the update that won't install, don't worry about that as it must apply only to Visual Studio (used for creating applications, not running them) because I just tried installing it and got the same error as you.

I had found that page too, but unfortunately I didn't understand how to apply it (Do you know what the "references" are to which the author refers in the second paragraph?

As I understand it he's referring to specific documents that use certain plugins for word that allow custom formatting (such as those used for special templates and those used by programmers for editing their files). However, if you're getting that error on all documents then it doesn't seem that it would be specific to a specially formatted document, but instead, a core component of Word itself or a file that it relies on.

Have you tried completely uninstalling and then reinstalling Office, and then installing any updates for Office from here? That might correct the issue (hopefully). Be sure that you have your product key for Office before you attempt removal though.

I did this, and the problem continues.

BTW, I installed Malwarebytes originally at the suggestion of an Avira user after I had clicked on what appeared to be a suspicious link. Later, an Avira representative said that the link was simply an advertisement. I did a complete scan with both Avira and Malwarebytes, and neither identified a problem.

I got some input from another helper (thanks Falkra :) ) and he suggested a tool that might help:

Run Dial-a-fix:

  • Please download Dial-a-fix from here and save it to your desktop
  • Extract it and double click Dial-a-fix.exe to run it
  • Under Registration center check the box next to each of the following:

  • ActiveX controls/codecs

  • Programming cores/runtimes

  • Explorer/IE/OE/shell/WMP

  • Object linking libraries (OLE)

  • Click the GO button on the bottom
  • Try running Word again to see if you still get the same error

Please let me know how it goes.

Thanks :)

Thanks for your replies and efforts, but neither the dial-a-fix nor installing the VB common controls has fixed the problem. I see no alternative to restoring my system from a ghost image. I think it is regretable that installing Malware bytes produces a known problem, and that on my machine the 'fixes' proved inadequate. Good luck with your next version.

Before you go through all of that, would you mind doing the following first to see if it might correct the issue? Please reinstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and then reboot and see if the issue persists. If it does, then please create and run the following batch file. I've changed it slightly to make it language neutral:

  • Please copy and paste the following text in the Code box exactly as written into notepad (not wordpad or any other text editor):
    regsvr32 "%programfiles%\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll"
    regsvr32 "%programfiles%\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\ssubtmr6.dll"
    regsvr32 "%programfiles%\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\vbalsgrid6.ocx"

  • Once you've done that click on File and select Save As...
  • In the Save dialogue box click on the drop down menu next to Save as type and select All Files
  • Name the file MBAMfix.bat (the .bat extension is very important)
  • Save the file to your desktop and double click it to run it.

Please let me know if you have any success.

Thanks :)

I would like to get more information about what is running on your machine.

First follow exile360's instructions, posted above.

Then if the problem is not solved, please download random's system information tool (RSIT) par random/random and save the file to your desktop. This tool will make reports and show what is running on your computer.

  • Double-click RSIT.exe (the downloaded file) to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue on the Disclaimer screen.
  • If an up to date version of HijackThis is not detected on your computer, RSIT RSIT will download it, and ask your firewall for internet access : if so, please allow it.
  • When the analysis is complete, two log files will be generated. Please copy paste log.txt's content (<<it will be displayed in notepad) and do the same with info.txt (<<it will be minimized to taskbar).
  • Both reports can be found in C:\rsit, in case you close them.

My apologies, but I need to get back to work and restoring from an image is quicker, involves less hassle, lets me avoid installing more programs I don't otherwise need or want, and lets me rest assured that the registry is not corrupted and that no malware remains undetected. Nonetheless, thanks again for your assistance.

Just so you can feel accomplished, I want to let you know that this fixed MY problem, (btw, regsvr32 wasn't missing) I was in the same boat as daal and tried all the VB stuff. Thanks!
