Chkdsk -- Having problems running this - HELP

Hi Exile,

I installed Outpost Firewall, but now I'm getting popups that ask me things I have NO idea about <_<

Here is what I just got -- sorry for the length, but wanted you to see the whole popup:

Dell Support

Application is requesting an outbound connection

Process: C:\Program Files\Dell Support\D5Angt.exe

Remote Address: cpe-24-29-........

Outpost Firewall should: (one of these)

-- Allow all activities for this application

-- Block all activities for this app.

-- Create rules using preset

(Choices for above choice)

Browser

Download Mgr

Custom

(Choices)

Allow Block

Auto Learn Mode Block and Terminate

Block and Add to Block List

Advice from Dell:

Some applications on your computer typically need to access your network or the Internet. If you know the application is legitimate and why it's requesting an outbound connection, allow the connection. Otherwise block it once. If yoiu notice that you're being hampered and get the same request, you can allow it. If your work is not hampered in any way and you get the same request later, then you can block it always.

Aaargh. Sorry, but not sure what to do (?). Thanks in advance. ;)

C:\Program Files\Dell Support\D5Angt.exe is safe and can be allowed (Allow all activities for this application).

You just proved my case against most software firewalls by the way <_< . Most of them are too cryptic and require too much user interaction for the average person (including me). It doesn't do you much good to have an application that's meant to block trojans when you can't identify what processes are the trojans and which ones are the safe programs.

I can't directly tell you to skip it as that might not be responsible of me, but I will say this: If you don't know how to use the firewall you have installed it won't do you any good with regards to protecting your PC and will likely lead to nothing but problems and headaches.

You might consider reading up on Online Armor here and posting there with questions and concerns about it as they'll be much more familiar with it than I would.

You can also take a look at the following tutorial on the use of software firewalls: Understanding and Using Firewalls

Hopefully it will help you to work with your firewall.

Hi Exile,

AAARGH, always something. I got a pop up re Internet Explorer re upgrading to latest version. I agreed stupidly. Now AOL is not behaving normally -- a link I usually use cannot be accessed on AOL.

I posted this as a separate topic on PC forum. It is so frustrating to spend so much time just trying to do the simplest things.

:)

I'll check out the links you gave me re firewalls.

I responded to your Adobe related topic :) . It's possible that the version of Adobe Reader you had installed was simply incompatible with the new version of IE (Internet Explorer). You should also check AOL to see if there is a new version of their software available. Keeping such programs up to date is very important for the sake of compatibility, system stability as well as security :) .

Hi Warthogg -

Please post some information as to why you have included all these items, as the helper must assume your problem -
