Daily scan not running automatically

Recommended Posts

Greetings. I am running Windows 10 Home 64bit with Premium and it has worked flawlessly for many years. Last week when I started my computer I I had a Windows Security box appear that was related to apps. Not knowing what it was related to I Xed it off and continued working. Historically when I start the computer within 10-15 minutes I would get a popup that a scan had completed by Premium and all was well. Since that time last week I do not get the popup and to get a scan I have to open Premium and run it manually. I assume I'm still protected by Premium. I have Premium set to run a daily scan when idle .  Can someone provide guidance as to what may be causing me not to get auto scans?  I appreciate your assistance ...

Spoiler
  1. Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
  3. Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  4. Navigate to the Advanced tab
  5. The Advanced menu page contains four categories:
    • Gather Logs: Collects troubleshooting information from the computer. As part of this process, Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) is run to perform a complete diagnosis. The information is saved to a file on the Desktop named mbst-grab-results.zip and can be added as an email attachment or uploaded to a forum post to assist with troubleshooting the issue at hand.
    • Clean: Performs an automated uninstallation of all Malwarebytes products installed to the computer and prompts to install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows afterwards. The Premium license key is backed up and reinstated. All user configurations and other data are removed. This process requires a reboot.
    •  Repair System: Includes various system-related repairs in case a Windows service is not functioning correctly that Malwarebytes for Windows is dependent on. It is not recommended to use any Repair System options unless instructed by a Malwarebytes Support agent.
    • Anonymously help the community by providing usage and threat statistics: Unchecking this option will prevent Malwarebytes Support Tool from sending anonymous telemetry data on usage of the program.
  6. To provide logs for review click the Gather Logs button
  7. Upon completion, click OK
  8. A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop
  9. Please attach the file in your next reply.
  10. To uninstall all Malwarebytes Products, click the Clean button.
  11. Click the Yes button to proceed.
  12. Save all your work and click OK when you are ready to reboot.
  13. After the reboot, you will have the option to re-install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows.
  14. Select Yes to install Malwarebytes.
  15. Malwarebytes for Windows will open once the installation completes successfully.

Not sure what is meant by "idle scan" ....   I turn the computer on, it is up and running and I just let it sit without doing anything. In the past during that time I could bring up Task Manager and within 10-15 minutes I could see the Malwarebytes app start running and after it completed I would get the popup giving the results .  It's worked that way for all the years I've had Premium ..   I can manually trigger the scan and I get the popup like normal ..   I reset to default setting within the app with no change ...   I have a feeling some change has occured due to the appearance of that Security box window I got last week ...   Many thanks for your reply

I have scheduled scan for daily at 11AM and turned smart scan off ..   The scan scheduler page now shows smart scan disabled ..   Do you know if that scan will occur even if I am using the computer at that time? We have the computer on all day ..   Thanks for your help ..  I will monitor and repost results at a future date ...

Followed your guidance and set scan time daily about 2 hours in the future then watched it at that time and it did run a quick scan as I hoped. Will continue to monitor for the next few days to see if it continues.  Don't know why smart scan has quit working as it has in the past and I noticed a number of posts on forum related to this problem.. None the less if this continues to work I'm okay with that .. Thanks again for your help ....

An update: The manually scheduled scans were working fine so I reset back to smart scan. Gave it the whole day to run and it ran scan although on details I noted that it scanned very few items compared to if I click on the home page to run a scan at any time. I'm assuming when I do that that it is equal to a threat scan which looks at many more items ... Also noted that it did run the weekly threat scan as scheduled by smart scan ...   Number of items scanned in a quick scan must be less than a threat scan ... Thanks to all for your assistance ......

This is correct. A quick scan scans the same thing as the threat scan except for the file system.

It skips the file scan. That is why it is "quick"
