On booting my PC today, I noticed an interloper: copilot.

I have wasted the day trying to understand how to excise this dratted digital doggy doo from my machine.

Searching Google and Microsoft,  I am instantly beset by the ubiquitous assumption that I wish to remove it from my taskbar and that I must be running Windows 11

NO; I WANT IT GONE AND I'M NOT RUNNING 11, MY MACHINE HAS BEEN DENIED THAT "PRIVILIDGE"!

In desperation, because almost every Microsoft community thread on the subject is locked and therefore unhelpful, I tried something I would never normally do. I attempted to edit the Registry!

Fortunately or otherwise, that made no a jot of difference, so I undid the mischief.

A trusted source advised me to use this but as the software is unknown to me, I thought I would seek the advice of MBAM.,

Can anyone recommend it?

Hi and thanks for that link.

I do have Edge on my PC but very very rarely use it, my preferred browser is Chrome, so I'm not interested in removing it just from Edge, I want it either gone from my machine or severely and terminally emasculated.

Just typing those last few words was cathartic!!

As I have said, I tried a Regedit from this source but despite following the instructions, I was confounded at the end when told to "Sign Out" from "my account"!

Which account?

Do I close Regedit first?

Having no idea, I just closed Regedit and shut down the machine and re-booted to find no appreciable change!

went back into Regedit and deleted the newly created "DWORD".

Thankfully it seems I've at least done no harm.

"O&O ShutUp10++" seems to be the solution I seek, but wanted evaluation from others before using it.

Hi @Porthos Thanks for those links, I did see them earlier today but got lost in the search for Local group policy editor.

I am running W10 Pro so knew it should be there somewhere!

Why do these things foisted upon us poor unsuspecting saps need what equates to Brain surgery to remove!?

At least the removal (or hiding) of the button went without complications!

The instructions to Enable/Disable for "All Users" seems sadly lascking in any detail, once you have the editor open and you are on the "Computer Config Tab".

I'm just left hangiong!!

Not sure what to do next!🤪

@Porthos Well I never!

Thank you!

That was painless.

I know that the Button is "banished", 'cos I can't now find it in the Taskbar context menu!

That gives me confidence that the dratted software is also gone!

I've no idea how to convince myself of that. 'cos I wouldn't know what it was intended to do in the first place!🙂

Is it possible/probable that MS Almighty might deliver it in future updates?
