Malwarebytes 5

Recommended Posts

I like the new GUI...Yeah at first it was jarring after having been staring at the same MB interface FOREVER...But I've quickly adapted and actually prefer the new GUI..

HOWEVER...The ONLINE PRIVACY VPN section should be able to be disabled in settings. I already use a VPN (Configured on my ROUTER)...I don't need this erroneous ONLINE PRIVACY VPN section in MB telling me erroneous info that my connection is PUBLIC (Which it is NOT)...That definitely needs to be able to be disabled from the GUI...Yeah I get that MB is trying to advertise their VPN BUT probably most here already have a VPN so this is just plain annoying. You get this point across upon installation that yeah MB has a VPN you can pay for...So those that don't have one already can maybe take you up on it...But for those of us who already have a VPN and are happy with it please let us disable this section from display by ticking a box in the settings.

I have yet to have Version 5 appear via MBAM 4.6.9. updates.  I have no desire to download Version 5 because I already have a VPN and don't want to be stuck looking at the Malwarebytes VPN "advertisement" on the main GUI.  I reiterate the previous suggestions that users be able to remove or disable that VPN "advertisement."

Just my two cents.  Have a great day.

Phil

@Porthos,

Thank you for your reply and the link to the offline Version 4 installer.  I downloaded it, just in case.  My hope is that by the time I am offered Version 5 via the usual "Check for Updates" in 4.6.9., the MBAM developers will have accepted the feedback to enable users to dismiss that advertisement from the main Version 5.x.x GUI.  It is just a waste of space on the main GUI for those of us who already have a paid VPN product with which we are completely satisfied.  One can live in hope . . .

Have a great day.

Regards,
Phil

All three of my Windows 10 machine are running MB 5.0.x version. For me, the layout for the GUI is nice and ecstatically pleasing. The VPN ad from MB doesn't bother me, but that's just me.

In a world of the 5/9/14 eyes countries, chose your VPN provider carefully, your VPN may not be as private as you think. Just like your ISP, VPN service providers can and a good number of them do log the access to the internet.

Just seen the release notes for 4.6.10 is it possible it would update itself to v5 instead of 4.6.10 if I click check for updates or will  this only install 4.6.10

Just 4.6.10. Updating to 5 from 4 in that manner is a ways off.

Just did it on my 4.6.9 machine, and got ... wait for it ... 4.6.10! Yay.

One more thing I'd like to see the developers re-consider: the size of the program window. In 5, it's HUGE, and can't be re-sized. The only reason I can see for the enormous new window is the inclusion of the ONLINE PRIVACY panel and the listing of "Other devices." If those were reduced in size (or eliminated), the 5 program window could be the same size as the 4.6.10 window, and that's a much more friendly, less in-your-face size.

I agree.  Those of us that don't use the MB VPN and don't want to see Other Devices there is no need to have these show at all.  There could be an option to not show these or they could be moved to another "tab".

I had to re-install MBAM on one of my machines today and got the new V5 for the first time.

At first launch,  I thought that maybe I have downloaded it from the wrong website on accident because it looks so much like a freemium fake AV. But this is the latest and the greatest MBAM, I guess :(

I do not like the new UI, It's ugly, it's cluttered and tries to upsell me something that I will never buy. I don't want your VPN. I'm not interested in it. I'm here for MBAM. I'm only here for your AV. Stop being AVG and throwing things in our face to buy. WTH was wrong with the old UI? It was clean, it was functional, it was familiar, and most importantly it didn't shove Avast-like freemium upsells in your face. I'm very much glad that there are other people like me that do not like the change.

Is the V4 EOL now?

Also, why can't I change the start time in scheduled scans? It's locked to "At idle time" and won't let me change it.

Turn off the following. It is the same in MB4.

Also, I highly suggest turning off the rootkit scan.

Scanning in rootkit mode does eliminate some whitelisting. It should only be used if there is an infection that Malwarebytes can't remove from normal scan mode.

Thanks for the tip. Do you know if the V4 installer publicly available for a download somewhere? I'm assuming that V5 is soon to replace it, I wonder if there an EOL date planned for V4? Because I'd like to stick with it until either I'm forced to update or V5 gets a better UI.

Thank you, @Porthosfor answering my fellow complainer so well. He and I are probably representative of thousands of MBAM loyals who will loathe the new UI when and if they see it. I'm looking forward to positive responses from the devs. Forty million Frenchmen can't be wrong (or words to that effect).

This is only happening to those who get the installer from malwarebytes.com. But in this case, the average user who needs to reinstall gets it as well since the smart user knows to only download from official sources.

It is good for those users Like @kola1 to come and give feedback as well.

I clean installed v5 on 2 laptops yesterday, I cancelled the trials so both are in scan only mode and not running real time.
Both laptops are running Windows 10 22H2, up to date with yesterdays (12th March) Patch Tuesday.

I don't have any particular issue with the new UI at this time, however I do have a bug report.

Both machines manifest the same glitch in the UI Dashboard when running a manual scan.
They both have the display of progress stick at 'Scanning Memory', the 'Scan time' is frozen and the blue circle no longer rotates.
(In this screenshot it's stuck at 02:55 but the time varies).
Capture.JPG.9c6124e96bddfd457d08d2a4ce998ea2.JPG

The Taskbar Icon still indicates activity (moving green shading) and checking in Task Manager the scan is still running and is accesing the OS drive.

The UI remains in that frozen state for a number of minutes and only resumes showing progress shortly before the scan completes.

Capture3.JPG.3bc2aa10ea8a01e57f84a22d33ce17bf.JPG

ETA - Just watching it more closely on the second machine I notice that the 'Scanning memory' stutters and freezes a number of times, but just for a few seconds, before finally freezing for most of the remainder of the scan.

Was this the first scan on each? Has the subsequent scans had the same result?
