MBAM 1.41 Freezes when updating

I've recently updated to IE8 on a Win XP, fully updated, PC and MBAM now locks/freezes after displaying the update progress indicator. It doesn't even appear to start updating. I can however update McAfee, which I also use, okay and use the internet whilst MBAM is in this condition. McAfee shows no infections and neither does a quick scan using MBAM, although of course MBAM cannot get an update to the DB after the downloaded 9 October one, so it might well be too out of date because I tried deinstalling and reinstalling MBAM 1.41 to no avail. I've checked my LAN settings to autodetect but this seems to make no difference. Any suggestions for further investigation/actions would be gratefully accepted.

also, make sure these files are in your exclusion/ignore list for firewall and AV

Many thanks for that advice. I'll give it a go and get back. I had actually already found the FAQ but intended running through it tomorrow due to work commitments today. My apologies, I should have added that fact afterwards.
