Hi there. Yesterday, I started running into some really strange issues with my computer that I haven't been able to properly pinpoint.

It started with Mozilla Firefox crashing, then certain programs closing, then getting the BSOD (with errors KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE and MEMORY_MANAGEMENT on two separate occasions) several times. The only thing I can figure is that it's some sort of virus. I ran a memory check to see if there was anything wrong on that front- everything looks fine- and tried loading up my computer in Safe Mode to figure things out. During that time, I downloaded Malwarebytes and did actually locate a PUP file. However, even after that was quarantined and deleted, the issues still persisted.

Now, whenever I try to run a system scan (Windows Defender, BitDefender), it gives me a BSOD in the middle of it, say 30-40 minutes after I've begun. This isn't the only cause for BSODs as they seem to occur a little randomly, but I really don't know what to do, and I haven't gotten through a full system scan because of these interruptions. I think that MalwareBytes searched my whole computer, but I'm not sure since it seemed to scan everything really fast. I'm also unable to run Windows Defender or BitDefender in safe mode, so that option's gone.

If I have a deep-rooted virus, I would really, really appreciate anyone who might be able to help me find it or get rid of it- or, at the very least, keep my computer from crashing like it is. I don't know what else it could be.

I would uninstall ALL of these antivirus programs

  • Bitdefender Total Security
  • Sophos Home
  • ZoneAlarm Antivirus

Then restart the computer and see if it will run in Normal Mode and let me know.

Sorry for not clarifying! The computer itself still runs in Normal Mode. The only issue is that it will run into crashes and blue screen more frequently, whereas that hasn't happened in Safe Mode yet.

I can still try uninstalling these, though.

Extra update: I actually looked at event viewer and found lots of errors that the memory diagnostic didn't report. I don't know if these are related to memory or not, but they do have the details of my BSOD crashes and other problems (that I don't really know how to decipher). Not sure if that's anything notable, but I thought it might be worth mentioning.
