Brand new HP all in one - dead

Recommended Posts

My friend has a 7 day old pc that has uncertain afflictions. This morning she turned it on and apparently clicked on "something" which brought up a Windows Defender Alert of system being shut down. We figured it was a scam so I did task mgr and shut it down. My next thought was to download MWB to the new system. I did so but when I went to the downloads folder it was not there. The system then went into a coma - it will not turn on. Can someone help me with this problem. I contacted HP support and tried their "solutions" but no deal. Thank you.

My question - when I downloaded the mwb program shouldn't it have gone to the downloads folder? Isn't that the standard location?

Yes, The downloads folder is the default for all browsers.

Is it not starting at all?

No.

We have had multiple attempts with the HP tech - his final solution was to ship it back to HP for repair. The thing about that is trust. We have stuff on that drive that would probably be accessible. We are now wondering if the ac adapter is causing a problem. The power button, when pressed, a light comes on indicating power has reached it and then goes out and the system does not start. I might order one - if no cure, I can send it back. Thanks.

Where was bought? Was it direct from HP's site?

2 things I will never recommend to my clients,

1 HP computers unless they are business class models.

2 All-in-ones in general.

Also, Staples purchase.

Take it back to Staples. You should not have to send it back to HP since it is only 7 days old.

Do you even see the HP screen when trying to start the computer?

So think I will try the ac adapter replacement.

Be sure to get a genuine HP adapter and not some generic compatible one.

Sadly, nothing seems to be as good as it used to be! So frustrating. My concern is the stuff that's on that drive if I take it back to Staples. That's why I am hesitant to do the return. Passwords that relate to medical stuff. So don't know if I should.

Don't see any kind of screen. Light flickers momentarily then off. Will not start - that's why I think it may be a power issue. I've tried umpteen million suggestions from many kind people wanting to help but no deal. Thanks again.

Most of the AIO's are coming with Device Encryption enabled by default. This means if it was set up with a MS account, without the password, no one can access any data without the password. Even if the drive is pulled.

Hmm. She set it up so don't know if it was done through MS account for sure. I'm also concerned that it may have a virus since that download of MWB did not reach the download folder. I think we will go to Staples tomorrow and talk to them about options. I'll just hope for the best answer. Thanks again for all your input. Most appreciated.

@Dublin70 Did HP suggest th following?

Unplug the AC adapter (at the computer not from the wall) and hold the power button down solid for 30 seconds and then plug it in and try to restart.

That would my first step if it was on my workbench.

We tried so many steps right now it is all a blur. I believe that was attempted. We did a lot of plugging and unplugging. She is at Staples right now with the adapter. She wants them to plug it into a system and see if it works. If it does, then we will know the hardware is the problem and she will ask for a replacement. Also, is AdwCleaner something to avoid bad stuff?

Thanks again.

I do have premium once I get pc up and running. Will using both be a problem? or just use Premium.? Took ac adapter to Staples - worked so PC going back to them and they are going to "fix"...if they can't they will give her a new one. Thaks.
