How do I get Malwarebytes w/o internet?

Recommended Posts

Hey, I have an unusual situation. My main computer not long ago I apparently got what I believe to be Malware (and lots of it) on my computer which is now preventing me from accessing the internet, instead it brought me to a page saying I needed to download "System Security". I could still play my online games, which is what I mostly cared about so did not do anything about it (I know not the best idea). It no longer prompts me to download System Security but I still cannot access the internet. I was highly recommended Malwarebytes from a friend, and I would like to put it on my computer, however how should I do that with no internet connection?

I did try to download the free version on another computer, transfer it via flash drive, put it on my computer, but then I could not register it on my computer because once again I could not access the internet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I would recommend burning the latest installer and database onto a CD, and installing from that, and then copying the latest database to where it needs to be, and then scanning.

Our database file is stored in the following locations.

On Windows XP:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref

On Windows Vista:

C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref

Ok, so I should download Malwarebytes onto my computer that can access internet, then burn the database onto a CD to install it onto my computer that cannot access the internet? If I do that will I be asked to register it via internet? I have no problems registering, but it would have to be after I can get my internet up and running on that PC.

There is no need to register our software. Just install it, copy the database, and run a scan. It may ask about reporting statistics, but obviously if there is no Internet connection then that will not be possible. ;)

try tapping f8 on bootup and go to safemode with networking..see if you can there.

So much malware starts in Safe Mode these days that I would doubt it would help, but if needed then it is worth a try. Just remember that it's better to run MBAM with Windows booted normally.
