mbam crashes, norton IS 2010 not working

Recommended Posts

Booted XP this morning, Norton Internet Security 2010 came up with firewall & anti-virus disabled, unable to get it working. Ran Ad-aware full scan (after updating), nothing found. Removed norton using the removal tool from Symantec. Then disabled Ad-Aware and tried to run mbam (have been trying to get it to run for over a month now, only worked once in "safe" mode a few weeks ago.) My system immedicatey froze. Downloaded mbam from the site that gives it a random name. Tried to run a full scan, but it froze after 9 sec when scanning c:\windows\system32\wininet.dll. Ran HijackThis and saved log file. Ran rootrepeal on the c drive files, it complained about 2 temporary hidden/locked files having an allocation size mismatch.

I'm stuck, don't know what to do now. Installed new ATI drivers a couple of weeks ago after reading that those can be a target for malware.

Removed everything in the c:\documents and settings\di\local settings\temp\ directory. Ran chkdsk /f, system crashed, tried again and ran ok. Ran mbam (randomly named version) successfully in "Safe Mode" with Quick Scan option, ran ok no problems reported. Then tried to run full scan on c drive (also in safe mode), crashed in less than 4 min. Would really appreciate some help.

Reinstalled Norton, ran full system scan. Picked up 11 tracking cookies, deleted them. Updated my mouse driver (last week updated video driver and reinstalled Windows Media Player). Checked running services and found a service entry previously disabled called "OKGPRZDCS" that I had forgotten about but it looked suspicious so had disabled it. Then did a registry search using JV Powertools, picked up a bunch of entries for OKGPRZDCS the earliest of which was dated 9/20/09. Tried to delete them all (after creating backup) but a dozen or so failed to remove d/t "Access denied or invalid key", some are listed under HKLM\system\controlset001\enum\root\legacy_okgprzdcs\0000\. Searched the web and this forum for OKGPRZDCS no luck. Could really use some assistance. mbam still hanging.

System appeared stable until I tried to run mbam (under randomized name) again, then crashed when scanning Optipix_Pro.exe. Rebooted in safe mode, crashed when tried to run mbabm again, also apparently when scanning Optipix_Pro.exe. Booted normally and Norton had problems updating itself "Process update failed to complete", was able to update Norton IS 2010 with auto-support. Scanned Optipix_pro.exe with mbam (single file scan), no problems found.
