@matawak

Does the icon still not show up after waiting a few more seconds?

If no, then does trying to open Malwarebytes manually result in "Too many UI instances started message"?

If that is the case, please grab some logs for us after doing these 2 steps above ^:

NOTE: The tools and the information obtained are safe and not harmful to your privacy or your computer, please allow the programs to run if blocked by your system.

  • Download the Malwarebytes Support Tool
  • In your Downloads folder, open the mb-support-x.x.x.xxx.exe file
  • In the User Account Control pop-up window, click Yes to continue the installation
  • Run the MBST Support Tool
  • In the left navigation pane of the Malwarebytes Support Tool, click Advanced
  • In the Advanced Options, click Gather Logs. A status diagram displays the tool is Getting logs from your machine
  • A zip file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to the Public desktop, please upload that file on your next reply

Thank you.

@AdvancedSetup Can you please move this conversation to it's own thread for better tracking?

Hello @matawak

You're running a very old version of Windows 7 that does not appear to be up to date. The networking also should have reached out and downloaded the Farbar (FRST) scanner but it did not which is another sign of issues on the system.

Microsoft Windows Information
========================================
Product Name:     Windows 7 Service Pack 1

Please see the following article and see if you can get Windows 7 updated to the latest released updates

You still appear to have some type of networking issue, or perhaps the MBST tool fault happened before it could grab the Farbar scanner.

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system.
You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  • Please rename FRST.EXE or FRST64.EXE to FRSTEnglish.exe
  • After renaming the file right-click over FRSTEnglish.exe and select "Run as administrator"
  • When the tool opens click Yes to the disclaimer
  • Make sure there is a check mark in the Addition.txt check box
  • Press the Scan button.
  • It will make a log FRST.txt and Addition.txt in the same directory the tool is run from. Please attach both logs to your next reply.

Thank you

Well, I see you're running Kaspersky Antivirus on the system.

The fact that Malwarebytes even runs on this system with Kaspersky is amazing. Running two antivirus programs on the system is not recommended.

I don't see any obvious signs of infection though

The Windows installer doesn't need to run all the time

Let's go ahead and run a couple of scans and get some updated logs from your system. Please read the entire post below before starting so that you're more familiar with the process

Then follow each step in the order provided. Unless otherwise asked, please attach all logs

Please make the following system changes:

  • If you have not done so already - Enable System Protection and create a NEW System Restore Point
  • Temporarily disable your antivirus real-time protection or other security software first only if it blocks or interferes with the scans or downloads.. Make sure to turn it back on once the scans are completed
  • Temporarily disable Microsoft SmartScreen to download software below only if needed. Make sure to turn it back on once the downloads are completed
  • Disable-Fast-Startup
  • Show-Hidden-Folders-Files-Extensions

Please run the following scans:

  1. Click the following link and run a  Scan with AdwCleaner
  2. Click the following link and run a  Scan with Malwarebytes
       RESTART the computer
  3. Click the following link and run a  Scan with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

When and how services are loaded are not within normal control of the user. There are startup programs that attempt to do that for you but Windows decides which programs loads and in which order.

To stop remote desktop access you can look at the following

Remote Desktop Can Be Useful, but You Can Easily Disable It

You should probably let the other people on Bleepingcomputer that you're being assisted here
