Blocking IP Protection

Recommended Posts

I HATE IP blocking -- it is constantly blocking very legitimate websites so I want to block it from loading every time I start up the computer but not necessary permanently. I have never edited the Registry but know I have to be very careful. So I found this in the forum:

"Registry Switches for Controlling IP-Blocking in MBAM 1.41

Create the indicated registry value (labeled as key | value) with the indicated data and reboot to enforce the policies below. All of the values are of type DWORD. In order to create a registry value, open the Registry Editor (Start -> Run -> regedit), navigate to the key listed, and then right-click in the right-hand panel and choose New -> DWORD.

1) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware | silentipmode

Description: With a DWORD value of 1, the protection module will block and log IPs silently.

2) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware | startipdisabled

Description: With a DWORD value of 1, IP blocking will start disabled on reboot, although it can be enabled subsequently.

3) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware | disableipblocking

Description: With a DWORD value of 1, IP blocking will be permanently disabled (cannot be toggled)."

When I tried to do the edit I found the silentipmode line but not startipdisabled or disableipblocking. So how can I proceed to adding the DWORD? And don't I have to undo the silentipmode too? Thanks, Sue

open the Registry Editor (Start -> Run -> regedit), navigate to the key listed, and then right-click in the right-hand panel and choose New -> DWORD.

Your response was exactly the same as the instructions and did not reference my specific questions. Sorry if I am being very dense here but I still cannot apply when I don't see startipdisabled where I am assuming I am to add the new DWORD. Or can I add DWORD anyplace in the Malwarebytes section of regedit and assume it knows that it's supposed to somehow magically apply to startipdisabled??? Sue

Okay, if you're using Windows XP you can install this and it will create shortcuts that allow you to turn this on and off as you wish.

I do have an XP system. Installed above with no problems (met criteria) and rebooted. As far as I can see there are no changes in regedit or the program -- back to where I started unless you can tell me where else to look. BTW, IP protection was on after rebooting. Sue

All that installer did was place new shortcuts in your Malwarebytes folder in the Start Menu

You need to choose which one it is that you want to use and it will then change the settings in the Registry for you.

You might consider adding this to the original instructions because I am sure there are many, many others like myself who are unfamiliar with what to do with or where to find shortcuts. Anyways, did as you said and it didn't make any difference. When I double clicked on the disable shortcut a very brief black box appeared and disappeared -- much too fast to read anything. Then I rebooted and found the IP Protection was still checked. Then I went to a website I remembered triggered the block (think only the notice but it loaded) and it did load but I got the notice that MWB successfully blocked it (not!). Also went to regedit and it is unchanged. Any other ideas? Thanks, Sue
