7-zip is safe?

I downloaded 7-zip to compress my files as a free alternative to Winrar, but when I run it through VirusTotal it gives me an alert of a possible trojan. do you know if this program is safe, I know that Windows has a built-in function to compress but I prefer a more robust alternative. I am a bit worried, I would not like it to be malware, I would appreciate your help.
