Browsers redirected. Occasional dump when booting.

Recommended Posts

Chimpy says I should fix instead of reinstall.

Fix or reinstall.

Dangit!

Symptoms.

Browsers redirect but home page not hijacked.

Ad-Aware doesn't find a problem.

MBAM may find a couple of files. Remove files. MBAM - clean run.

Avast didn't find a problem.

Removed Avast. Loaded Avira.

Avira doesn't find a problem.

A couple of Google searches in the browsers (IE7 or FF3.5) and the redirects begin again.

A couple of the reboots resulted in dumps. But not every reboot dumps.

The system.

Vista HP SP1, Avira, MBAB, ZoneAlarm, Ad-Aware

None of the Troubleshooting Tips apply to me (I think).

Thanks for the help.

Hi,

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here or here or here.

Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool.

  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    1. DDS.txt
    2. Attach.txt

[*]Save both reports to your desktop. Post them back to your topic.

Download GMER here by clicking download exe -button and then saving it your desktop:

  • Double-click .exe that you downloaded
  • Click rootkit-tab and then scan.
  • Don't check
    Show All
    box while scanning in progress!
  • When scanning is ready, click Copy.
  • This copies log to clipboard
  • Post log in your reply.

Thanks for the help.

A couple of things.

Switched back to Avast.

GMER may dump the system on fxrdrpod.sys every now and then.

I run MBAM and GMER a couple of times a day. Haven't found any "infections" in the last few days.

The logs you requested are zipped and attached.

Question, do you prefer logs to be copy/pasted or zipped/attached?

Thanks again,

Joe

Hi,

Haven't found any "infections" in the last few days.

But is there still redirecting occuring anyway?

Question, do you prefer logs to be copy/pasted or zipped/attached?

If log is not too long then would like to see it as copy-pasted. In your case GMER log was pretty long.

But is there still redirecting occuring anyway?

Well, not in the last few days. I'll keep an eye open for that.

If you want to close this post, I'll start another if the problem comes back.

Is there a post or article on what to look for in some of the log files? I don't want to become an expert at this but if there is something that I should be on the lookout for...

Thanks again for your help.

Is there something I can do for you, the group, or the site?

Joe

You're welcome :). There's one thing you should do to make system more secure.

Uninstall old Adobe Reader versions and get the latest one (9.2) here or get Foxit Reader here. Make sure you don't install toolbar if choose Foxit Reader! You may also check free readers introduced here.
