Determine key coverage

Recommended Posts

Hi, I bought two versions of Malwarebytes software about two months ago. Being hasty, and worried about clutter I threw the boxes away. One had coverage for 5 devices. The other only 3. I planned to use them on different accounts. I now want to use the five license key because my subscription needs to be renewed. I do not want to start the one year period on the wrong key. How can I tell the coverage on these keys and not start the time ticking on the wrong key? The key-card shows no indication of what the coverage is. Thanks

Thanks for posting in the Malwarebytes for Windows Help forum.

If you are having technical issues with our Windows product, please do the following:

Malwarebytes Support Tool - Advanced Options

This feature is designed for the following reasons:

  • For use when you are on the forums and need to provide logs for assistance
  • For use when you don't need or want to create a ticket with Malwarebytes
  • For use when you want to perform local troubleshooting on your own

How to use the Advanced Options:

  1. Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
  3. Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  4. Navigate to the Advanced tab
  5. The Advanced menu page contains four categories:
    • Gather Logs: Collects troubleshooting information from the computer. As part of this process, Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) is run to perform a complete diagnosis. The information is saved to a file on the Desktop named mbst-grab-results.zip and can be added as an email attachment or uploaded to a forum post to assist with troubleshooting the issue at hand.
    • Clean: Performs an automated uninstallation of all Malwarebytes products installed to the computer and prompts to install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows afterwards. The Premium license key is backed up and reinstated. All user configurations and other data are removed. This process requires a reboot.
    •  Repair System: Includes various system-related repairs in case a Windows service is not functioning correctly that Malwarebytes for Windows is dependent on. It is not recommended to use any Repair System options unless instructed by a Malwarebytes Support agent.
    • Anonymously help the community by providing usage and threat statistics: Unchecking this option will prevent Malwarebytes Support Tool from sending anonymous telemetry data on usage of the program.
  6. To provide logs for review click the Gather Logs button
  7. Upon completion, click OK
  8. A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop
  9. Please attach the file in your next reply.
  10. To uninstall all Malwarebytes Products, click the Clean button.
  11. Click the Yes button to proceed.
  12. Save all your work and click OK when you are ready to reboot.
  13. After the reboot, you will have the option to re-install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows.
  14. Select Yes to install Malwarebytes.
  15. Malwarebytes for Windows will open once the installation completes successfully.

You will have to take a  50/50 chance because you threw away the box. Be warned once activated, the timer starts and can not be paused or stopped.

I am hoping Malwarebytes staff and identify them for me.

This is one issue only the support desk can address. The forum can not deal with license issues.

Please contact our support team at https://support.malwarebytes.com/hc/en-us/requests/new to get help

Please submit only one ticket/request. Additional tickets will increase the delay.

Be advised it can take 3-7 weekdays for a response after the automated reply with your ticket number.

  • 2 weeks later...

You can enter the codes for either or both licenses on your account subscriptions page and store  them there till you are ready to activate them.  The stored subscription will show the the number of devices available on the license. In your case, depending on the license entered, it will show  0/3 or 0/5.

To store your license,  log in to your account, go to your subscription page, click on "Add a Subscription", and on the pop-up click on "Register a license". Another pop-up will request you to "Please enter your License Key to register your subscription."

Once entered, your account subscriptions page should now show  a window with all your registered licenses, with the new  license  saying "Your product has not been activated" and showing the number of devices available for activation under the particular license (in your case 0/3 or 0/5) .   When you want to activate the particular license, click on the  "Activate" button  at the bottom of its window.   This allows you to  store each license on your subscription page till you are ready to activate it.  As you enter the license on each new computer, the subscription window will show the new number of activated devices (e.g., 1/3,  4/5) on the particular license .

My subscriptions page shows two licenses; one currently active for 1 device (1/1) expiring in a few weeks,  and an unused  one for three devices (0/3) not yet activated, and ready for use when the old one expires.

The top of my subscriptions page says:

"Finish activating your Malwarebytes subscription. You have not completed activation of your Malwarebytes Standard subscription on all available devices. Finish activating today to protect all your devices and data" with a big blue "Activate Now" button to the side.  I'll do that when the old license expires.

Hope this explanation is accurate and useful.
