Thanks for posting in the Malwarebytes for Windows Help forum.

If you are having technical issues with our Windows product, please do the following:

Malwarebytes Support Tool - Advanced Options

This feature is designed for the following reasons:

  • For use when you are on the forums and need to provide logs for assistance
  • For use when you don't need or want to create a ticket with Malwarebytes
  • For use when you want to perform local troubleshooting on your own

How to use the Advanced Options:

  1. Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
  3. Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  4. Navigate to the Advanced tab
  5. The Advanced menu page contains four categories:
    • Gather Logs: Collects troubleshooting information from the computer. As part of this process, Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) is run to perform a complete diagnosis. The information is saved to a file on the Desktop named mbst-grab-results.zip and can be added as an email attachment or uploaded to a forum post to assist with troubleshooting the issue at hand.
    • Clean: Performs an automated uninstallation of all Malwarebytes products installed to the computer and prompts to install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows afterwards. The Premium license key is backed up and reinstated. All user configurations and other data are removed. This process requires a reboot.
    •  Repair System: Includes various system-related repairs in case a Windows service is not functioning correctly that Malwarebytes for Windows is dependent on. It is not recommended to use any Repair System options unless instructed by a Malwarebytes Support agent.
    • Anonymously help the community by providing usage and threat statistics: Unchecking this option will prevent Malwarebytes Support Tool from sending anonymous telemetry data on usage of the program.
  6. To provide logs for review click the Gather Logs button
  7. Upon completion, click OK
  8. A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop
  9. Please attach the file in your next reply.
  10. To uninstall all Malwarebytes Products, click the Clean button.
  11. Click the Yes button to proceed.
  12. Save all your work and click OK when you are ready to reboot.
  13. After the reboot, you will have the option to re-install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows.

Please get us the following logs @sm7

Something on your system prevented the network retrieval of the Farbar program.

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system.
You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply as well.

Thank you

Please do the following steps @sm7

[ 0 ]

Please create NEW System Restore Point before we proceed.

[ 1 ]

Please go to Control Panel, Programs and uninstall the following

  • Bonjour  (not needed for Windows computers)
  • CCleaner (no longer recommended by computer experts)
  • Java 8 Update 251  (way out of date and possibly compromised)

[ 2 ]

Not something to do right now, but once we're done you should update to the latest version of Firefox for Windows 7

[ 3 ]

You're using an extended HOSTS file (which is okay, but for now, please restore the default HOSTS file until we're done)

Change it's name or make a copy.

How to reset the Hosts file back to the default

[ 4 ]

Your current DNS Servers:

Please consider changing your default DNS server settings. Please choose one provider only

DNS is what lets users connect to websites using domain names instead of IP addresses

Pick just one of these 4 providers. And be aware that you need to modify 1 time for IPv4 & a 2nd pass for IPv6

  • Google Public DNSIPv4 and   IPv6   2001:4860:4860::8888 and 2001:4860:4860::8844
  • CloudflareIPv4 and   IPv6   2606:4700:4700::1111 and 2606:4700:4700::1001
  • OpenDNSIPv4 and  IPv6  2620:119:35::35 and 2620:119:53::53
  • DNSWATCHIPv4 and   IPv6  2001:1608:10:25::1c04:b12f and 2001:1608:10:25::9249:d69b

Unless you truly need these items to start up with Windows EVERY time the computer starts I would remove them.

Run MSCONFIG and remove the entries. Java shouldn't even be there as you should uninstall Java.

MSCONFIG\startupfolder: C:^ProgramData^Microsoft^Windows^Start Menu^Programs^Startup^EZ-DUB Finder.lnk => C:\Windows\pss\EZ-DUB Finder.lnk.CommonStartup
MSCONFIG\startupreg: DBAgent => "C:\Program Files\Seagate\Seagate Dashboard 2.0\DBAgent.exe" /WinStart
MSCONFIG\startupreg: MP3Studio YouTube Downloader => "C:\Program Files\MP3Studio YouTube Downloader\MP3StudioDownloader.exe" /minimize
MSCONFIG\startupreg: SDTray => "C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy 2\SDTray.exe"
MSCONFIG\startupreg: SpybotPostWindows10UpgradeReInstall => "C:\Program Files\Common Files\AV\Spybot - Search and Destroy\Test.exe"
MSCONFIG\startupreg: SunJavaUpdateSched => "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Java\Java Update\jusched.exe"
MSCONFIG\startupreg: Uploader => C:\Program Files\Seagate\Seagate Dashboard 2.0\Seagate.Dashboard.Uploader.exe

Dell Support Assist is having issues making a secure connection. That is more than likely due to the fact you probably don't have all the latest TLS 1.2 and 1.3 protocols setup on Windows 7

I would probably uninstall Dell Support Assist at this time due to the age of the computer it's really not doing anything for you except using resources.

BIOS: Dell Inc. 1.0.18 02/24/2009
Motherboard: Dell Inc. 0G679R

Our MBST support tool is faulting because your Windows 7 system does not appear to have the latest .NET assemblies installed. Which again is normal for older Windows 7 systems. We may be able to fix it but not sure yet at this time.

Error: (08/28/2023 07:22:14 AM) (Source: .NET Runtime) (EventID: 1026) (User: )
Description: Application: mb-support.exe
Framework Version: v4.0.30319
Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception

You're using the CryptoPrevent by Foolish IT LLC
This was an excellent solution at the time for Ransomware attacks. Today it's not quite as useful as most current threats have learned other means to attack the system.

Normally not an issue so we'll ignore and hope that it is not related to your current issue as I'm sure you've had this installed for a long time now. Just want you to be aware of it had you forgotten.

[ 9 ]

Make sure you've made a NEW System Restore Point as requested in Step 0

Next, Please run the following fix

NOTE: Please read all of the information below before running this fix.

  • NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on this particular machine.
  • Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system that cannot be undone.

Once the fix has been completed, please attach the file FIXLOG.TXT to your next reply

Farbar program:   FRSTEnglish.exe

Save the attached file:  FIXLIST.TXT to this folder C:\Users\Scott\Desktop\

NOTE. It's important that both files, FRSTEnglish.exe, and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

Please make sure you disable any real-time antivirus or security software before running this script. Once completed, make sure you re-enable it.

Run the Farbar program with Admin rights and press the Fix button just once and wait.

The fix may possibly take up to 60 minutes to complete

If the tool needs a restart please make sure you let the system restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart.
The tool will make a log named Fixlog.txt in the same folder you ran the Farbar program from. Please attach that log on your next reply.

  1. NOTE:  This fix will run a scan to check that all Microsoft operating system files are valid and not corrupt and attempt to correct any invalid files. It will also run a disk check on the restart to ensure disk integrity.
  2. NOTE: As part of this fix all temporary files will be removed. If you have any open web pages that have not been bookmarked please make sure you bookmark them now as all open applications may be automatically closed.
                Also, make sure you know the passwords for all websites as cookies may possibly be removed in some cases, but not all cases.
  3. NOTE: As part of this fix, it will also reset the network to default settings including the firewall. If you have custom firewall rules you need to save please export or save them first before running this fix.

The following directories are emptied:

  • Windows Temp
  • Users Temp folders
  • Edge, IE, FF, Chrome, and Opera caches, HTML5 storages, Cookies and History
  • Recently opened files cache
  • Discord cache
  • Java cache
  • Steam HTML cache
  • Explorer thumbnail and icon cache
  • BITS transfer queue (qmgr*.dat files)
  • Recycle Bin

Important: items are permanently deleted. They are not moved to quarantine. If you have any questions or concerns please ask before running this fix.

The system will be rebooted after the fix has run.

Before I move forward with this info ... has Malwarebytes made any big changes which came in the latest updates ??? this just started happening ... please explain.

I'm hesitant to make all of these changes because as I said earlier this system is OLD and I was planing to either get a NEW system or put a NEWER Disk Drive in this system then go to Win 10. I have been sick and putting out other fires. I cannot make a good NEW System Restore point when last I tried so I prob can't now.  Thanks for all of this info but can I try a NEW Install of Malwarebytes and could this help the prob.

My main concern is not being able to make the RESTORE Point moving forward and then creating a bigger problem.

If you recently installed Malwarebytes it could also be that you have not enabled SHA2 on your system.

In that case, yes uninstall the current version and install the SHA1  version for older systems not updated to the proper version.

AdvancedSetup thanks for your help. I have limited time on this system and thought I would create more issues correcting the things you found. Anyway I went the route of "SHA1 version for older systems not updated to the proper version" and it worked. The very odd thing was once I down loaded the OLDER version from I don't know where the Win File I needed popped up in my updates. I let machine update and I RESTARTED then your OLDER version worked. I think this file came from MB becauseI had turned off UPDATES years ago due to Win update issues with Win 7.

Anyway all is well and thanks for your efforts in helping much appreciated. Please close this issue.
