AVG users and Error Code 703

Recommended Posts

This work around is for AVG users having error code 703. I have personally verified that this works on Windows XP service pack 2 only. If you are using any other OS or service pack it will probably work but YMMV.

1) Install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

2) In AVG goto TOOLS->Advanced Settings

Expand the Resident Shield tab and go to excluded files

3) Add the following files to the excluded files list in AVG

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\mbam.sys

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\zlib.dll

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.dll

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll

Please note that these are the default file locations. If you installed the program to custom directory please use that directory instead.

4) Uninstall Malwarebytes Anti-Malware via the Add/Remove Programs utility in the control panel

5) Reinstall Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. You may wish to restart your computer before reinstalling however I did not and I have not noticed any ill effects.
