Hi and welcome to Malwarebytes.

Download DDS by sUBs and save it to your Desktop.

Double-click on the DDS icon and let the scan run. When it has run two logs will be produced, please post the one that is not minimized.

Next:

1. Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware using Add or Remove programs in the Control Panel.

2. Restart your computer (very important).

3. Download and run this utility.

4. It will ask to restart your computer (please allow it to).

5. After the computer restarts, install the latest version from here.

Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via e-mail if you purchased it. Let me know if MBAM will run now.

Hi,

Please visit this webpage for instructions for running ComboFix:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

  • When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt along with a new HijackThis log so we may continue cleaning the system.

See if MBAM will install now. If no joy, rename mbam.exe to winlogon.exe and see if it will run.

Hi,

There's a good chance that McAfee is interfering.

If you would like to troubleshoot, please uninstall McAfee from Add or Remove Programs.

Next, download the McAfee Removal Tool.

Double click on MCPR.exe to launch it, then Click Run. A window should appear and disappear, this is normal. A new window should popup and begin the uninstall. When prompted to reboot your computer type Y.

Try grabbing a fresh copy of MBAM; see if it will install now.

Finally able to resolve the problem after some research on Microsoft support site and googling . AppData registry value under "HKCU\software\microsoft\windows\currentVersion\explorer\User shell folders" was incorrect. changed the registery value to %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming and it worked. Anyway thanks for your help.
