No Thank You !!!

Can I get an AMEN from the congregation

Microsoft. If I can no longer run Windows without the Cloud I will most definitely switch over to Linux. At some point, all good things come to an end.

So glad you found this:

these are soothing statements

1. "Microsoft is currently in U.S. court over its acquisition of Activision-Blizzard, which the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is attempting to block over concerns of anti-competitive practices."

2. "There’s no indication right now that Windows will turn into a streaming-only product. There are so many use cases where that wouldn’t be practical (gaming, using connected hardware, areas with poor internet connections, etc.) that it would almost certainly destroy Windows and the hardware manufacturers that rely on PC sales."

3. "Forcing people to use Windows in a streamed cloud environment with a required subscription would just be the most extreme move on a path Microsoft has already been on for over a decade. Thankfully, that would be both unpopular and technically impossible at the scale of the current Windows market, while the previous anti-consumer moves have been unpopular but easily possible."

Even though this is essentially an opinion piece, it still references a fact, which is a current court case. We can conclude/assume from other massive court cases that it will move slowly, possibly over a period of years, and by that time, who knows what the landscape will contain?

I thought the sky might be falling, but not this year.

No, Windows Is Not Moving to the Cloud

I take that bet. It might not happen tomorrow but sooner or later it will go to the Cloud 100% I can promise you that. It's just a matter of time.

Even if it takes another 5 years or even 10 years. It will 100% go to the Cloud.

I’ve been considering doing that when 10 ends support. Need to learn more about it, but there’s plenty of time.

In the meantime, I’m considering installing Linux mint on one of our old windows 7 laptops that’s sort of just gathering dust. Apparently mint isn’t that resource intensive, and could help breathe new life into the older hardware. It would be a good way to learn a bit about the OS.
