NewTricks Posted June 12 ID:1572047 Share Posted June 12 (edited) Also known as the science of jigsaw puzzles. When you want to go crazy (in a good way) and have something to show for it when it's over. 1000 pieces at a time. A little help from my friends gave this a corrected, a solid finish. Root Admin AdvancedSetup Posted June 12 Root Admin ID:1572074 Share Posted June 12 (edited) I'm sad. I started one of these with granddaughter last year. We worked on it for a month and still did not complete it. Then due to ongoing changes in the home we had to stop and put it back in the box. NewTricks Posted June 12 Author ID:1572079 Share Posted June 12 It's a great activity to do with the grandkids. And even though it was not completed, you still have it, should you decide to try again. Doing any size requires a dedicated space, and how many households have that? Not many. I do mine elsewhere-simply for the space. With little people around, there's always going to be low level chaos/changes. If and when life presents the opportunity, you might consider those which have 100 pieces. Or repurpose some corner or small table. There's no harm in seeing and using things in a way which you haven't before. Bottom line, whether you do puzzles or other things, the time you spend with the (g)kids is an investment for both of you.
NewTricks Posted June 13 Author ID:1572208 Share Posted June 13 When you return to it, and feel like making an inexpensive wall hanging, I can recommend easily accessible materials at ordinary craft stores. This little beauty was my cover photo here until I glued it to foamcore and hung it up.

NewTricks Posted June 14 Author ID:1572538 Share Posted June 14 (edited) Other people provide these puzzles and this location, directly underneath a skylight in the library-great for working, especially on sunny days, but no way to overcome glare on photos. The umbrella section wasn't too tough, but the fireworks in the sky will be. Before the current Country Life, there was a 750 piece Dog Day puzzle-surprisingly difficult. Finished it. admired it, took it apart. Edited June 16 by NewTricks removed attachment

NewTricks Posted June 14 Author ID:1572585 Share Posted June 14 I have CAT puzzles on my hard drive! This is the second dog puzzle Melissa gave me. The first was dogs in yoga poses. Silly stuff but now that I think of it, that's when I began to get into dissectology BIG time. Some people do crosswords, Suduku: some people walk daily, or exercise fanatically. I like the mind bending, patience crushing 1000 pieces, but have revised my strategy. When it's no longer fun, I pack up and walk away. Things are so much better now.

NewTricks Posted June 20 Author ID:1573565 Share Posted June 20 (edited) Next up: 1500 pieces. This should be good because it's loaded with detail. No vast areas that contain color with no markers; plus sewing & embroidery are long time interests. Edited June 28 by NewTricks

Five hours into it-manageable so far. Edit: June 23-work in progress see: Post ID:1574158 Edited June 23 by NewTricks update

NewTricks Posted June 21 Author ID:1573749 Share Posted June 21 (edited) This is a place to unplug in some ways, not all ways, cause I listen to music. It's a gauge to measure flexibility. No computers, no repetition, no mechanical manipulation. No racing. I'm going to yank & replace that photo as long as the system lets me. 😉 EDIT: I remember now. The air conditioning at the library is sooooooooooo nice. Edited June 28 by NewTricks update

NewTricks Posted June 23 Author ID:1574158 Share Posted June 23 (edited) I finally had an epiphany. Since my specs weren't doing a fine job for me, and the entire puzzle photo was reduced on the box bottom, I got smart, brought the box home, scanned with my "good" HP. I selected a portion in IrfanView, and then (drum roll) made my first merge image files, (Image menu) instead of multipage image under options menu. The former created a simple collage of 2, but the latter (3) created a messy temp file which wasn't able to be opened successfully. Voila, the simple collage. With this amount of detail, it's necessary. Edited June 28 by NewTricks space saving attachment removal

NewTricks Posted June 28 Author ID:1574808 Share Posted June 28 Puzzles are cardboard: don't freeze, run, respond, update, download, elevate, crash, optimize, need passwords, managers, codes, syntax, assistants, vigilance, upkeep, /, \, * numbers or letters. p.s. some brains are differently "abled" I do need yours.
