National Donut Day or National Doughnut Day, celebrated in the United States and in some other countries, is on the first Friday of June of each year, succeeding the doughnut event created by The Salvation Army in Chicago in 1938 to honor those of their members who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I.[1] The holiday celebrates the doughnut.    National Donut Day-source Wikipedia.

In the Second World War, Red Cross Volunteers also distributed doughnuts, and it became routine to refer to the Red Cross girls as Doughnut Dollies as well.

WARNING-WARNING-WARNING OFF TOPIC for DONUTS ON TOPIC FOR EMPTY CALORIES

Shopped for Fig Preserves in (drum roll) TJ Maxx specialty food, settled on Geodi, a Greek product that boasts Extra Fruit Jam FIG fruit content 85%.

Naturally  the second ingredient is sugar, in all choices. I liked this one because it had 20% more fruit that others and most importantly only 3 simple ingredients, FIGS, SUGAR, LEMONS.

Those Greeks

Yes, thank you @Excession Sadly I am fully aware of the devastating effects of sugar. "Knowing and doing are two different things." I am on the verge of doing an all meat diet-just to see how the body reacts. Black Angus strip steak last night as a start. My daughter is campaigning for the Proper Human Diet. Not sure how it will go, since I don't wanna give up my blueberries.

My ultimate goal is well stated. I know sugar will never get me there but have hatched a plan to switch out the donuts, (cookies, muffins) for fruits-

National Donut Day has just been silliness on the spur of the moment.
