Allow List not working, malwarebytes persists in locking files.

Recommended Posts

Godot 4.0+ (mono) writes to files in %AppData%\Local\Godot at various points including when saving a scene. Malwarebytes is locking files due to their modification which results in the attached errors happening, several times per preview of my projects.

I have added the folders %AppData%\Local\Godot (its expanded C:\users\ path) to the 'Allow List' from the Malwarebytes gui, in addition to Godot editor's binaries, and folders where they reside. The problem continues. Nothing is being blocked or flagged as malicious, its just that malwarebytes is locking the files it shouldn't be watching.

This problem stops when I disable malwarebytes' real-time protections and terminate its processes. Is there anything further I may do to work around this problem aside from disabling/removing malwarebytes entirely?

Thanks muchly

I'll not be submitting aformentioned logs for a variety of reasons including confidentiality and retention of protected characteristics not required to service this question.

Are there known problems with real-time protection continuing to watch files/folders despite their presence on the Allow List?

Many thanks.

There is no information that revels any confidential information in the logs.  The tools used and logs collected are used and downloaded 1000's of times a day.

We need the logs to ensure the settings are correct in the Malwarebytes program and well as check if the exclusions are correctly configured in your app.

Can you at least provide a screen shot of your exclusions?

There are no issues that I am aware of with real-time protection not honoring the exclusions

Hello, @thejinx

You can send me the logs in a Private Message if you like.

To begin, please do the following so that we may take a closer look at your installation for troubleshooting:

NOTE: The tools and the information obtained are safe and not harmful to your privacy or your computer, please allow the programs to run if blocked by your system.

  • Download the Malwarebytes Support Tool
  • In your Downloads folder, open the mb-support-x.x.x.xxx.exe file
  • In the User Account Control pop-up window, click Yes to continue the installation
  • Run the MBST Support Tool
  • In the left navigation pane of the Malwarebytes Support Tool, click Advanced
  • In the Advanced Options, click Gather Logs. A status diagram displays the tool is Getting logs from your machine
  • A zip file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to the Public desktop, please upload that file on your next reply

Thank you
