Virus control over my laptop

Recommended Posts

Please help me, virus control over my laptop
I have 3 laptops at home, and about a week ago they started behaving strangely.
From time to time I see how the settings change in different browsers without my knowledge, also the virus sometimes replaces the url I want to go to, sometimes I have to reset the default settings in order for the browser to work.
I believe that the virus made it possible to remotely run the code, also changes the Windows settings, when checking the system with the standard "windows defender" antivirus, it does not find anything, but I believe that the virus prevents access to the Microsoft Update website to install the latest updates.
There are a huge number of entries in the registry, there are also more processes in the task manager than usual, and there are an incredible number of them in the task scheduler.
I did a clean install of Windows, but it didn't help, it seems to me that the virus made a backup of my system and set the parameters with which my system should boot.
I tried to install "Sophia Script for Windows" for protection, but I'm not sure if it helped

Hello @Westhill and :welcome::

For maximum clarity, please choose the first computer of your choice and confine your efforts there for now.

While you are waiting for the next qualified/approved malware removal expert helper to weigh in on your topic, and even though you may have run the following Malwarebytes utility, or its subsets, please carefully follow these instructions:

  1. Download the Malwarebytes Support Tool.
  2. In your Downloads folder, open the mb-support-x.x.x.xxx.exe file.
  3. In the User Account Control (UAC) pop-up window, click Yes to continue the installation.
  4. Run the MBST Support Tool.
  5. In the left navigation pane of the Malwarebytes Support Tool, click Advanced.
  6. In the Advanced Options, click only Gather Logs. A status diagram displays the tool is Getting logs from your computer.
  7. A zip file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to the Public desktop, please attach that file in your next reply to this topic. Please do NOT copy and paste.

For the short time between when you post the diagnostic logs, and when your helper weighs in, please take no further self-directed remedial actions that will invalidate the diagnostic logs you will have sent.

Thank you.

Hello  and  :welcome:     @Westhill

My screen name is AdvancedSetup and I will assist you with your system issues.

Let's keep these principles as we proceed. Make sure to read the entire post below first.

  • Please follow all steps in the provided order and post back all requested logs
  • Please attach all log files to your post, unless otherwise requested
  • Temporarily disable your antivirus or other security software first. Make sure to turn it back on once the scans have been completed.
  • Temporarily disable Microsoft SmartScreen to download the software below if needed. Make sure to turn it back on once the scans are completed.
  • Searching, detecting, and removing malware isn't instantaneous and there is no guarantee to repair every system.
  • Before we start, please make sure that you have an external backup, not connected to this system, of all private data.
  • Do not run online games while the case is ongoing. Do not do any free-wheeling or risky web-surfing.
  • Only run the tools I guide you to use. Please don't run any other scans, download, install or uninstall any programs while I'm working with you.
  • Cracked, Hacked, or Pirated programs are not only illegal but also can make a computer a malware victim. Having such programs installed is the easiest way to get infected. It is the leading cause of ransomware encryption. It is at times also a big source of current Trojan infections. If there are any on the system you should uninstall them before we proceed.
  • Please be patient and stick with me until I give you the "all clear". We don't want to waste your time, please don't waste ours.
  • If your system is running Discord, please be sure to Exit it while this case is ongoing.

Please run the following steps and post back the logs as an attachment when ready.
Temporarily disable your antivirus or other security software first. Make sure to turn it back on once the scans are completed.
Temporarily disable Microsoft SmartScreen to download software below if needed. Make sure to turn it back on once the scans are completed.
If you still have trouble downloading the software please click on Reveal Hidden Contents below for examples of how to allow the download.

Sorry for the long waiting time, when I was waiting for a response, then at the time when various material was sent on the Internet,
and was looking for similar problems, namely:
installed unknown software, remapped my browser urls to unknown direction, and played with my drivers and installed to different ones
"guid" keys, which loaded the system very much, a little later I saw a completely flashed BIOS, there were a lot of changed values, and a lot of things that should not have been by default,
in the end I had to make the decision to reset the bios to normal, for its appearance seemed threatening to me, then for some time I could not get here,
the virus either sent my request to another site, or said that I was not registered here yet, and when I tried to use the password reset, the letter did not come to my email,
now he let go of his grip, and here I am. It's been a lot of work with my laptop since I sent you the file, so I thought it best to redo it.
Thank you, in a few hours I will be free and will begin to follow all your steps, and as soon as I finish, I will notify you immediately

Please run the following fix @Westhill

NOTE: Please read all of the information below before running this fix.

  • NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on this particular machine.
  • Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system that cannot be undone.

Once the fix has been completed, please attach the file FIXLOG.TXT to your next reply

Farbar program:   FRSTEnglish.exe

Save the attached file:  FIXLIST.TXT to this folder C:\Users\Fenix\Downloads\

NOTE. It's important that both files, FRSTEnglish.exe, and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

Please make sure you disable any real-time antivirus or security software before running this script. Once completed, make sure you re-enable it.

Run the Farbar program with Admin rights and press the Fix button just once and wait.

The fix may possibly take up to 60 minutes to complete

If the tool needs a restart please make sure you let the system restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart.
The tool will make a log named Fixlog.txt in the same folder you ran the Farbar program from. Please attach that log on your next reply.

  1. NOTE:  This fix will run a scan to check that all Microsoft operating system files are valid and not corrupt and attempt to correct any invalid files. It will also run a disk check on the restart to ensure disk integrity.
  2. NOTE: As part of this fix all temporary files will be removed. If you have any open web pages that have not been bookmarked please make sure you bookmark them now as all open applications may be automatically closed. Also, make sure you know the passwords for all websites as cookies will also be removed in most, but not all cases.
  3. NOTE: As part of this fix, it will also reset the network to default settings including the firewall. If you have custom firewall rules you need to save please export or save them first before running this fix.

The following directories are emptied:

  • Windows Temp
  • Users Temp folders
  • Edge, IE, FF, Chrome, and Opera caches, HTML5 storages, Cookies and History
  • Recently opened files cache
  • Discord cache
  • Java cache
  • Steam HTML cache
  • Explorer thumbnail and icon cache
  • BITS transfer queue (qmgr*.dat files)
  • Recycle Bin

Important: items are permanently deleted. They are not moved to quarantine. If you have any questions or concerns please ask before running this fix.

The system will be rebooted after the fix has run.

fixlist.txt

Thanks

Yes It is, I forgot to attach it (it worked for about 10 seconds and did not find anything, it seems to me that it did not check anything, but only simulated work):

AdwCleaner[S00].txt

1) now I noticed that "Malwarebytes" was hiding at the bottom of my taskbar, apparently I forgot to close it after checking it, or I clicked on the close icon, and it hid in the tray, it means it was active when "AdwCleaner" and "Farbar Recovery Scan Tool" were running, this did not affect the result of the checks in any way?

2) I just closed it and it disappeared, and the next moment two notifications from the defender appeared:

- checking applications and files is disabled, the device may be vulnerable

- SmartScreen filter for Edge is disabled, the device may be vulnerable

And a second later, skript (sophia script for windows) worked, and cleared these notifications, I believe that this skript is either poorly installed (under the influence of viruses), or does not obey me at all. I understand that it will be necessary to turn it off before the next step, but I don't know how to do it?! Should I take the next step, or do I need to make any changes?

I will be waiting for your answer

Drag and Drop KVRT.exe into the Run Box.

user posted image

C:\Users\{your user name}\DESKTOP\KVRT.exe will now show in the run box.

add -dontencrypt   Note the space between KVRT.exe and -dontencrypt

C:\Users\{your user name}\DESKTOP\KVRT.exe -dontencrypt should now show in the Run box.

That addendum to the run command is very important, when the scan does eventually complete the resultant report is normally encrypted, with the extra command it is saved as a readable file.

Reports are saved here C:\KVRT2020_Data\Reports and look similar to this report_20210123_113021.klr
Right-click direct onto that report, select > open with > Notepad. Save that file and attach it to your reply.

To start the scan select OK in the "Run" box.

A EULA window will open, tick all confirmation boxes then select "Accept"

image.png

In the new window select "Change Parameters"

image.png

In the new window ensure all selection boxes are ticked, then select "OK" The scan should now start...

user posted image

When complete if entries are found there will be options, if "Cure" is offered leave as is. For any other options change to "Delete" then select "Continue"

When complete, or if nothing was found select "Close"

Attach the report information as previously instructed...

Thank you

Okay, let me get another set of Farbar logs please.

At the moment it does not look like a true infection. You may be experiencing some type of bug or setting change with the browser but the scans so far are not showing a true infection.

Do you OWN the network Router in your home or do you rent one from your Internet Service Provider?

You could try doing a Router reset

If you own your own router and are not renting it from your Internet Service Provider

Please ensure that you have the user manual for your router. Then perform a factory reset.

How To Reset Your Router
https://setuprouter.com/networking/how-to-reset-your-router/

Depending on one's preferences and the Router's capabilities please consider the following.

  • Disable acceptance of ICMP Pings
  • Change the Default Router password using a Strong Password
  • Use a Strong WiFi password on WPA2 using AES encryption or Enable WPA3 if it is an option.
  • Disable Remote Management
  • Create separate WiFi networks for groups of devices with similar purposes to prevent an entire network of devices from being compromised if a malicious actor is able to gain unauthorized access to one device or network.
Example: Keep IoT devices on one network and mobile devices on another.
  • Change the network name (SSID).  Do not use your; Name, Postal address or other personal information.  Make it unique or whimsical and known to your family/group.
  • Is the Router Firmware up-to-date ?  Updating the firmware mitigates exploitable vulnerabilities.
  • Specifically set Firewall rules to BLOCK;   TCP and UDP ports 135 ~ 139, 445, 1234, 3389, 5555 and 9034
  • Document passwords created and store them in a safe but accessible location.

Then get me a new set of logs from the Farbar scanner.

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system.
You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply as well.

Thank you

Sorry for my long answer

My provider rent me modem -> this modem connect with my router -> wifi router give network for my laptop and any device(another laptop, android)

Now i use public wifi

When i try reset router, and connect for wifi from him, my browser(edge) write me - you connection are not protected

And i think, if this virus controll all my browser(Edge,Firefox), and he can see what i do\what i writhe in browser

i mean, if i reset router, and there set new setting, this virus can see my new setting, and connect for my network again ?!

I too cant use my Android for setting configuration router, because he behaves interesting

I mean he use interesting setting when connect to network, he runs Internet Protocol(IP) and then leverages HTTP on top of Ip

Yesterday i found my old device(Android), he was not used for many times, he dont have any information in memory, but when i charge, and turn on, i saw from display message, about all uac disable, and many another new setting

I read many information in network for find similar symptoms

And in wikipedia i met information for Universal Plug and Play(UPnP)

Maybe this virus use UPnP, its possible ?

Virus change my bios setting, and if i try use "reset bios for default setting", my windows load, but all my drivers not work(network, usb, else)

So, me seems that virus change my bios, and he install some drivers for  controll my system, and he use UPnP, its real ?

Tell me please, what i must do, if virus controll all my device ?
