Linus Tech Tips Malware Hacked Redline Malware

Recommended Posts

As half the planet knows that Linus Tech Tips had their YouTube account hacked by malware which came in via email as a fake PDF document.

The malware was created using "Redline malware kit" which is available online and is used by a lot of these hackers now.

However my concern is that Malwarebytes is not able to detect this and I am seeing this happen quite often now which makes me really worried.

Someone please tell me why I have nothing to worry about when using Malwarebytes please. See attached imaged from VT.

Here is the virus total link: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/ba4a1292aed29502f8a096e05f5a3db8c53793d78597a9e0201bc8a141d1cbdf

Or just search on VirusTotal : ba4a1292aed29502f8a096e05f5a3db8c53793d78597a9e0201bc8a141d1cbdf

Thank You.

I moved your post to General Chat as you posted in the Malware Removal area which is meant for people whose Windows PC is currently infected or believe their PC to be infected and want their PC to be checked out by a trained Forum Helper.

If you are concerned that Malwarebytes does not detect a particular file, please reference the following on how to provide sample submissions such that Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM) can detect targeted but presently undetected threats in the form of disk files.

Malware Hunters group
Purpose of this forum

Based upon the above guidelines, create a new post in Newest Malware Threats  for Windows based files.

Non-Windows based files are provided in...

EDIT:

The Virus Total Report was not up to date and was one day old.  I updated the Virus Total Report and MBAM does detect the files as;  Malware.AI.2384743478

If you look at said Virus Total Report;  First Submission  2023-03-25

Today is the 28th and as I noted  the originally posted Virus Total Report had not been updated and was from the 27th.

Catching up with newly released trojans is a tough fight.   Submitting undetected ones, as noted in Post ID:1560894,  helps.

Thank you!
