Please save the attached file FIXLIST.TXT to the USB thumb drive you ran the Farbar program from.

fixlist.txt 4.36 kB · 2 downloads

Then in the Recovery Environment run the Farbar program on the affected computer and then click on the FIX button.

This fix will not work if the Farbar program and FIXLIST.TXT are not in the same folder.

Then remove the USB stick when it's restarting and see if it will start.

We're going to force remove some Avira AV and Malwarebytes and see if that helps it to start up.

How'd I get to the Recovery environment from here?

The same thing you did when you got the FRST log but when FRST opens press fix.

Insert your USB drive into the computer.

Boot into the Windows Recovery Environment.  SHIFT-F10 as before

In the Command Prompt window, type the following

Assuming the USB drive is still the X: drive

MD X:\LOGS
C:
CD C:\Windows\System32\winevt\Logs
xcopy *.evtx X:\Logs /s

Then from the good working computer you can zip up the X:\LOGS  folder with all the files and upload here.

So, if you pull the USB disk out of the effected computer. Then start up. It should go to Auto Repair correct?

I want you to choose the Advanced Options

image.png

Then I think you should see a screen very similar to the following. Please click on Troubleshoot

image.png

That should bring up a screen similar to the following. Click on Reset this PC

image.png

Then it should bring up a screen like this. Make sure you click Keep my files

image.png

That should do a small restart and ask you to log into the computer. Select an account that has Admin rights and log in.

That should present a screen similar to this. Select Local reinstall

image.png

You will get one last warning.  Click the Reset button

image.png

You should then start to see something like the following

image.png

Then at some point it should show something similar

Once that has completed, you should now be able to log onto the computer as before but all applications will have been removed that did not originally come with the computer.

Unfortunately this appears to be about the best we can do at this point unless you want to try and pull the hard drive out and connect to a device to allow imaging or backing up the data on another computer.

No, the drive mapping doesn't matter.

Okay, well. A couple of options.

Do you have important data such as documents, images, videos, pictures, etc that you want to save?

Yes, but I have most on the external hard drive. If you're suggesting a factory restart, I'll try geek squad first to see about at least backing up the hard drive before a complete wipe. What was in the last update that could do this?

We could do an install of Windows. It will move your current installation of Windows to C:\Windows.old

But at that point we should be back into a new installation of Windows and we could use Team Viewer and I could do a remote session with you to copy, move data, backup data and set things up normal again.

You should not lose any data.

Take a bit of time but no cost. Geek Squad isn't going to reinstall Windows and get your data back for free.

Let me know.
