Can a virus put my only drive in read only

So my recently my computer black screened and I turned it off and it wouldn’t boot. I managed to get it to a blue screen once but now it just boots to bios I booted with a flash drive to try and just wipe my drive and get a fresh install of windows but I don’t seem to have access to the files. If I open command prompt I can see the files but I can’t even delete them with the windows installer since they seem to be in read only. Anyway a virus could have done it and some ways I can fix it?

Hello :welcome:

Request for some key details. Please.
What version of Windows is this machine?  Windows 10 ? Windowds 11?
Just how did you make that "flash-drive" ?  Is that by building it using the Microsoft Media Creation tool?

Is this machine a laptop or notebook?  or is it a desktop type or small tower pc ?

Also, provide some detial on how you got to a "command prompt"?

Try to consider that this is a Windows system that has some glitches in doing a normal startup. Rather that some "infection".
and by dark screen, I gather you meant that the monitor-display was all dark with nothing visible.
