Ookla Speedtest Result

My router is an old Linksys and not able to be updated. The cloud account I had is no longer found, but I am still able to get in and check through my network map. All appears to be well.

@David H. Lipman posted reply ID 1555176 this morning and that led me to check my router. A speedtest result provided by Ookla showed a surprise. Spectrum and a well known University in this area. I'm connected to the University site. 🤔

Thanks to @AdvancedSetup at the end of January, I've updated and cleaned up. I've changed all my bad habits, (excepting eating over the keyboard) and don't rush to tweak or fiddle.

When I open up the Change Server button, a list appears with names of both Spectrum and various universities in this part of the state. Spectrum servers are located 68 miles away, whereas the University (attached to a nearby hospital) is "around the corner." Perhaps this makes no difference. Maybe the University servers are bullies who take over everything in their path, judging from recent acquisitions.

Paying for a Spectrum service and learning it is not even connected to their servers is unsettling. I suppose someone is going to get the money. Is this a function  of the government Affordable Connectivity Program? Bait and Switch?

I see that these values are variable and change with each connection. My download speeds are slightly increased with a Spectrum server, the upload values remain the same. My system apparently changed the server, as I did not.

Whoa Dave, the joy of learning!  Higher speeds might only make a difference with things like streaming media or sending large files. It depends on how you use your system. Ignorance before this was certainly not bliss, but I find "knowledge is power." Even a little bit goes a long way.
