Malewarebytes is randomally freezing

Recommended Posts

I have similar issue on a Win10 Pro machine that I believe may be related to Malwarebytes auto-updates and possibly related to hibernation.

Happened today shortly after I re-started from a hibernated Windows session - I got a security warning within a few minutes of starting up -

After doing some investigating and several reboots, I would say this created a dangerous situation and in my opinion is likely to be the fault of MB in not taking into account ever possible scenario when doing an automatic version update.

Shortly after one of the reboots having had to restore a lot of Windows security settings including those related to Windows Defender and memory protection - really serious stuff - I got message that MB had been updated to a new version and invited me to learn more about how it won't be slowing my computer down to do scans ....   I'd rather have software that doesn't make me vulnerable when doing a hidden self update!

This is not the first time this has happened. I think I need to turn off ability of MB to update versions and return to 'Notify me when a new version becomes available' because I think this didn't happen until I changed to the auto download and install application updates....

Hello @rgam and welcome back:

While you are waiting for the next expert helper to weigh in on your issue, and even though you may have run the following Malwarebytes utility, or its subsets, please carefully follow these instructions:

  1. Download the Malwarebytes Support Tool.
  2. In your Downloads folder, open the mb-support-x.x.x.xxx.exe file.
  3. In the User Account Control (UAC) pop-up window, click Yes to continue the installation.
  4. Run the MBST Support Tool.
  5. In the left navigation pane of the Malwarebytes Support Tool, click Advanced.
  6. In the Advanced Options, click only Gather Logs. A status diagram displays the tool is Getting logs from your computer.
  7. A zip file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to the Public desktop, please attach that file in your next reply to this topic. Please do NOT copy and paste.

For the short time between when you post the diagnostic logs, and when your helper weighs in, please take no further self-directed remedial actions that will invalidate the diagnostic logs you will have sent.

Thank you.
