Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Corporate 1.80.2.1012, but issue replicates itself on Free (License-less) MBAM 1.75.

This issue occurs:

On Corporate: Corporate 1.80.1 downloaded and updated to 1.80.2, so program updating works. Database updating results in the title error.
On Free: Attempts to update to Malwarebytes v4, then throws up the same error.

I should disclose that database updating worked as of Jan 6, 2023. Both Free and Corporate had updated to a Jan 2023 database successfully, so this is not
an instance of unsupported software looking for a dead host. This problem had also appeared for dozens of others (on this forum as well) while this version
of the program was the primary supported version (before Malwarebytes v2)

I have ruled out AV interference. Problem also occurs when Avast is disabled. Hosts file is not the issue either.
We run offline Windows Vista machines, offline and online Windows 7 machines and online Windows 10 and 11 machines.
Problem occurs on an online Windows 7 machine.

Updating to Malwarebytes v3 or v4 is not an option, as archaic rules only let us use either v1 or v2. Since v2 does not receive database updates, we are limited
to using v1 (which does receive database updates as of Jan 2023) This is not a serious problem either, as actual malware detection was identical across
both v1 with Jan 2023 databases and the latest v4.

Hi,

Thanks for posting in the Malwarebytes for Windows Help forum.

If you are having technical issues with our Windows product, please do the following:

Malwarebytes Support Tool - Advanced Options

This feature is designed for the following reasons:

  • For use when you are on the forums and need to provide logs for assistance
  • For use when you don't need or want to create a ticket with Malwarebytes
  • For use when you want to perform local troubleshooting on your own

How to use the Advanced Options:

Spoiler
  1. Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
  3. Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  4. Navigate to the Advanced tab
  5. The Advanced menu page contains four categories:
    • Gather Logs: Collects troubleshooting information from the computer. As part of this process, Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) is run to perform a complete diagnosis. The information is saved to a file on the Desktop named mbst-grab-results.zip and can be added as an email attachment or uploaded to a forum post to assist with troubleshooting the issue at hand.
    • Clean: Performs an automated uninstallation of all Malwarebytes products installed to the computer and prompts to install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows afterwards. The Premium license key is backed up and reinstated. All user configurations and other data are removed. This process requires a reboot.
    •  Repair System: Includes various system-related repairs in case a Windows service is not functioning correctly that Malwarebytes for Windows is dependent on. It is not recommended to use any Repair System options unless instructed by a Malwarebytes Support agent.
    • Anonymously help the community by providing usage and threat statistics: Unchecking this option will prevent Malwarebytes Support Tool from sending anonymous telemetry data on usage of the program.
  6. To provide logs for review click the Gather Logs button
  7. Upon completion, click OK
  8. A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop
  9. Please attach the file in your next reply.
  10. To uninstall all Malwarebytes Products, click the Clean button.
  11. Click the Yes button to proceed.
  12. Save all your work and click OK when you are ready to reboot.
  13. After the reboot, you will have the option to re-install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows.
  14. Select Yes to install Malwarebytes.
  15. Malwarebytes for Windows will open once the installation completes successfully.

Just to clarify, everything points to this version indeed getting database updates in 2023.
Please do not reply with the arbitrary 'unsupported' before reading the whole post.

I am sorry you do not accept that the old versions are unsupported.

Hello @tylerg

I'm sorry, but as the others have said. This version has not been supported for a long time now. No expectation that updates would have worked is to be expected as we have documented it now for a long time that it is not supported.

End of Life

What this is

The date when we will no longer provide technical support on an older version of our software, exactly 6 months after the End of Maintenance date for Home applications and 12 months after End of Maintenance for Business and Technician applications. What this means for you

Technical support, product content, self-help resources, protection updates including updates to threat libraries, maintenance and patches will no longer be available one year after a product's End of Life date.

Unfortunately, you may need to find another vendor that does cover your requirements. You would need to upgrade to version 4.x of our main product or use one of the other business products.

Thank you

Thank you AdvancedSetup. I will speak to management about letting us purchase a Nebula license for Malwarebytes v4.

I was just confused as to why an 5-year unsupported version of Malwarebytes receives working database updates (works on other computers). I was merely insinuating that the problem
could be due to other factors.
