See, that is strange. The logs are not showing the uninstall of Malwarebytes, yet it was removed.

I would like to go ahead and run another antivirus scan to double-check nothing is hidden there causing an issue.

Please download and run the following Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool 2020 and save it to your Desktop.

(Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool version 20.0.10.0 was released on November 9, 2021)

Select the  image.png  Windows Key and R Key together, the "Run" box should open.

Drag and Drop KVRT.exe into the Run Box.

C:\Users\ichli\DESKTOP\KVRT.exe will now show in the run box.

add -dontencrypt   Note the space between KVRT.exe and -dontencrypt

C:\Users\ichli\DESKTOP\KVRT.exe -dontencrypt should now show in the Run box.

That addendum to the run command is very important, when the scan does eventually complete the resultant report is normally encrypted, with the extra command it is saved as a readable file.

Reports are saved here C:\KVRT2020_Data\Reports and look similar to this report_20210123_113021.klr
Right-click direct onto that report, select > open with > Notepad. Save that file and attach it to your reply.

To start the scan select OK in the "Run" box.

A EULA window will open, tick all confirmation boxes then select "Accept"

image.png

In the new window select "Change Parameters"

image.png

In the new window ensure all selection boxes are ticked, then select "OK" The scan should now start...

user posted image

When complete if entries are found there will be options, if "Cure" is offered leave as is. For any other options change to "Delete" then select "Continue"

user posted image

When complete, or if nothing was found select "Close"

Attach the report information as previously instructed...

Thank you

Maybe it´s time to set up Windows new... I don´t want it, but it feels like there is something wrong.

Agreed that something is wrong. Just not sure what it is.

This is the fastest way to repair many issues without losing your installed programs and data.

If that does not work, then this would be the better way by doing a full CLEAN install of Windows

Last night I did a clean install.

So far so good.

I will first install all the software I need and then (maybe when Malwarebytes 5 is ready) install Malwarebytes.

Right now I keep it with Defender and some Browser extensions (like Browser Guard and Bitdefender Traffic light) to stay safe.

@AdvancedSetup

thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate it.

I never thought it would "hit me" like this, it has to be good for something. New year - new Windows.

I will mark it as solved, even if I have not Malwarebytes installed yet - it should work :-)

Okay, sounds good. Yes, having a nice new install is great. I've done it many times in my career.

Don't forget to use something like Macrium Reflect to make a backup image of the computer the way it is in case you mess something up you can restore the entire computer within minutes instead of having to start from scratch again.

And here are some recommendations to help keep the computer safe and clean going forward.

  1. Recommend using a Password Manager for all websites, etc. that require a password. Never use the same password on more than one site.
