Lost VPN feature

Please go to Control Panel, Programs, Programs and Features and uninstall Malwarebytes

Then restart the computer. Then reinstall with the latest build

Let us get some logs please.

 

To begin, please do the following so that we may take a closer look at your installation for troubleshooting:

NOTE: The tools and the information obtained are safe and not harmful to your privacy or your computer, please allow the programs to run if blocked by your system.

  • Download the Malwarebytes Support Tool
  • In your Downloads folder, open the mb-support-x.x.x.xxx.exe file
  • In the User Account Control pop-up window, click Yes to continue the installation
  • Run the MBST Support Tool
  • In the left navigation pane of the Malwarebytes Support Tool, click Advanced
  • In the Advanced Options, click Gather Logs. A status diagram displays the tool is Getting logs from your machine
  • A zip file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to the Public desktop, please upload that file on your next reply

Please do the following. Go to Control Panel, Programs, Programs and Features and uninstall

FileASSASSIN

This is an extremely old program we created that is not compatible with our modern software.

 

Make sure that Bleachbit, CCleaner, Cleaning SuitePrivaZePrivacy Protector for Windows and similar programs are not touching any of our files or folders. Cleaning of meta-data from security software can potentially cause it not to function as expected.

Do not allow Process Lasso to modify anything with our programs either.

 

You also have an outdated version of Java you should consider uninstalling and updating to the latest version.

 

That aside, the information below is just general in nature and is probably not specifically a cause of the issues with VPN as it was working before I assume.

 

Personally, seeing this software below in use on the system indicates to me that the computer is NOT safe and secure. This software modifies both File/Folder and Registry permissions across the entire computer.

If you really wanted a safe and secure computer I would highly recommend you do a CLEAN install of Windows and then once the computer is back working how it should, make an image back up using one of the imaging backup programs.

You can once again please try an uninstall of ALL Malwarebytes software using our MBST tool. Then DO NOT allow the software to be reinstalled just yet.

After the removal please run a security scan from ESET

 

 

Please run the following ESET Online Scanner and perform a Full Scan

  • It will start a download of "esetonlinescanner.exe"
  • Save the file to your system, such as the Downloads folder, or else to the Desktop.
  • Go to the saved file, and double click it to get started. 
  • When presented with the initial ESET screen, click on "Get Started". Read and accept the Terms of use
  • On the "Before we start..." screen chose if you want to send anonymous data and if you want to provide feedback or not, then click Continue
  • When prompted for scan type, Click on the Full Scan button
  • Enable  ( select )   the radio selection "Enable ESET to detect and quarantine potentially unwanted applications"   and click the Start scan button.
  • Have patience.  The entire process may take a few hours or more.
  • When the scan is completed, if something was found, it will show a screen with the number of detected items.  If so, click the button marked “View detected results”.
  • Click The blue “Save scan log” to save the log and give it a name and location you remember.
  • If something was removed and you know it is a false postive, you may click on the blue ”Restore cleaned files”  ( in blue, at the bottom).
  • Press Continue when all done.  You should click to turn off the offer for “periodic scanning”.
  • Enable "Delete application data on closing" - You do not need to submit feedback unless you want to. Simply ignore and close the program.

1.VPN was still not working when I received your last message. Btw, in dev mgr the MB VPN adapter was absent.

2.Uninstalled File Assassin

3.CCleaner and the other cleanup tools are on my PC but I have not lauched any of them recently.

4.Java is up to date. I keep JRE because some programs I use need it.

5.Tweaking.com AIO was not running when I took the logs, it was Windows Repair Toolbox: https://windows-repair-toolbox.com/, a collection of system tools, of which none was running.

6.Removed Malwarebytes with the support tool, log attached

7.A full scan with ESET only flagged false positives; Nirsoft  tools and 3 password and  keys recovery tools. Yesterday moring I had made a full scan with Malwarebytes, it quarantined several PUPs and 2 innocent programs.

8.Reinstalled the latest V5 beta, log attached. Right after install there was an activation window with Premium (not Plus) in the title bar. IMHO the setup should open this window before installing the program: without the key (which was not saved by the cleanup tool), it cannot know which features to install/activate.

Support will look into your issue.

As for the item #5 (5.Tweaking.com AIO) that has nothing to do with it running or not and probably nothing to do with your current issue.

That tool destroys the safety and security of Windows. It cannot be restored back to a secure point that was provided by Microsoft. The only way to fix it is to do a CLEAN install of Windows.

You were asked to uninstall the older version. You choose to use a 3rd party tool to uninstall that is not capable of talking with our license servers. Support went in and corrected your license

Please do not use 3rd party removal tools
