Hello  and  :welcome:     @Dradco

My screen name is AdvancedSetup and I will assist you with your system issues.

Let's keep these principles as we proceed. Make sure to read the entire post below first.

  • Please follow all steps in the provided order and post back all requested logs
  • Please attach all log files to your post, unless otherwise requested
  • Temporarily disable your antivirus or other security software first. Make sure to turn it back on once the scans have been completed.
  • Temporarily disable Microsoft SmartScreen to download the software below if needed. Make sure to turn it back on once the scans are completed.
  • Searching, detecting, and removing malware isn't instantaneous and there is no guarantee to repair every system.
  • Before we start, please make sure that you have an external backup, not connected to this system, of all private data.
  • Do not run online games while the case is ongoing. Do not do any free-wheeling or risky web-surfing.
  • Only run the tools I guide you to use. Please don't run any other scans, download, install or uninstall any programs while I'm working with you.
  • Cracked, Hacked, or Pirated programs are not only illegal but also can make a computer a malware victim. Having such programs installed is the easiest way to get infected. It is the leading cause of ransomware encryption. It is at times also a big source of current Trojan infections. If there are any on the system you should uninstall them before we proceed.
  • Please be patient and stick with me until I give you the "all clear". We don't want to waste your time, please don't waste ours.
  • If your system is running Discord, please be sure to Exit it while this case is ongoing.

To begin, please do the following so that we may take a closer look at your installation for troubleshooting. This is a report only.

NOTE: The tools and the information obtained are safe and not harmful to your privacy or your computer, please allow the programs to run if blocked by your system.

  • Download the Malwarebytes Support Tool
  • In your Downloads folder, open the mb-support-x.x.x.xxx.exe file
  • In the User Account Control pop-up window, click Yes to continue the installation
  • Run the MBST Support Tool
  • In the left navigation pane of the Malwarebytes Support Tool, click Advanced
  • In the Advanced Options, click Gather Logs. A status diagram displays the tool is Getting logs from your machine
  • A zip file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to the Public desktop, please upload that file on your next reply

Thank you

Hello @Dradco

I will guide you along on looking for remaining malware. Lets keep these principles as we go along.

  • Removing malware can be unpredictable
  • Please don't run any other scans, download, install or uninstall any programs while I'm working with you.
  • Only run the tools I guide you to.
  • Do not run online games while case is on-going. Do not do any free-wheeling web-surfing.
  • The removal of malware isn't instantaneous, please be patient.
  • Cracked or or hacked or pirated programs are not only illegal, but also will make a computer a malware victim. Having such programs installed, is the easiest way to get infected. It is the leading cause of ransomware encryptions. It is at times also big source of current trojan infections. Please uninstall them now, if any are here, before we start the cleaning procedure.
  • Please stick with me until I give you the "all clear".
  • If your system is running Discord, please be sure to Exit out of it while this case is on-going.

Windows 7 view all files:

  • Select the Start button, then select Control Panel >> Appearance and Personalization.
  • Select Folder Options, then select the View tab.
  • Under Advanced settings, select Show hidden files, folders, and drives, and then select OK.

See this article on our Malwarebytes Blog   ( with special focus on EDGE browser )
https://blog.malwarebytes.com/security-world/technology/2019/01/browser-push-notifications-feature-asking-abused/

You want to disable the ability of each web browser on this machine from being able to allow "push ads". That means Chrome, Firefox, or Edge browser (on Windows 10, or 11), or on Opera.

Scroll down to the tips section "How do I disable them".

The Microsoft Safety Scanner is a free Microsoft stand-alone virus scanner that can be used to scan for & remove malware or potentially unwanted software from a system.

The download links & the how-to-run-the tool are at this link at Microsoft

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/threat-protection/intelligence/safety-scanner-download

Look on Scan Options & select  CUSTOM scan  & then select the C drive to be scanned.

Then start the scan. Have lots of patience. Once you start the scan & you see it started, then leave it be.

  • Once you see it has started, take a long long break;  walk away.  Do not pay credence if you see some intermediate early flash messages on screen display.  The only things that count are the End result at the end of the run.
  • Again, any on-screen display about repeat 'infection' is not to be relied on.  Ignore those.
  • We only rely on the end result that is on the log-report-file.

This is likely to run for many hours   ( depending on number of files on your machine & the speed of hardware.)

The log is named MSERT.log

the log will be at

Windows\debug\msert.log

Please attach that log with your reply. We will do more later.

OK Maurice. I will work on these items tonight (Sunday Night) and try to get back to you tomorrow (Monday Eve 1/9) with the scans, adjustments and uninstallations. Also, I didn't quite understand Advanced Setup's Reply that just stated, " If you're available" ... Perhaps you can elaborate for me.

Thank you so much for your guidance and patience my friend... Have a great evening

I was simply asking if Maurice wanted to continue to assist you as he started to assist you before I thought (looking now I see he was only closing the topic), or if he was not available, I would assist you. That's all.

Cheers

Maurice

Sorry it is taking me so long to get back here. This en.softonic.com popup keeps stopping the Microsoft Safety Scanner.

Can I run it in Safe mode. Anyway  i will have all your requests ASAP. I just wanted to give you an update.

Thank you for your time and your patience my friend. I'll be at the VA all day today but i'll try to complete it and get the logs to you by tomorrow with any luck.

Regards

Dradco

There is no need to rush. If you still see a "rogue" window what you need to do ( with the rogue in the foreground) Press and hold the ALT-key on keyboard & then tap the F4-function key on the keyboard. ALT + F4 are shortcut sequence-keys to force a Close of the window in the foreground.

And, Yes, if you have to use Safe mode, you can run the MSERT Safety Scanner tool in safe mode.

ADDED note: When you get back and have a few minutes, get the Safety Scanner run going. Then after it is under way, you can just walk away.
The program will run on and do its work. There is no need to watch it, nor to babysit it.
Just start it and go about your own business. I would just let this run overnight, before I went to bed for the night. Then next day, look for result.
