Terri569 Posted September 21, 2022 ID:1534563 Share Posted September 21, 2022 Yesterday and today I've been getting many Malewarebytes popup messages saying that a website has been blocked. This has happened even when I wasn't using the computer. I have a premium subscription and it was recently supposed to have been renewed automatically, as now when I open Malwarebytes it says I have 377 days to renewal. This morning it was blocking Chrome.exe (I was using Chrome browser; right now I am using Edge). Chrome would not allow me to use it - if I opened a new tab it gave an error message. I downloaded the latest version of Malwarebytes Adware and ran that. It found nothing, although it asked if I wanted to delete "old" software, which is the Hewlett-Packard software; I have an HP laptop so I did not delete or quarantine those. Now Chrome seems to work okay. But I looked at the Detection History in Malwarebytes and going back a few days ago to September 19 it lists a ton of things blocked, many of them doing with google, like google play, or google in the name, One blocked place is an IP address, although I have Random Addresses turned on, on my computer. Most of them listed as malware but a two dentified as trojans, those being h.parrable.com and bestteestore.net. Should I be worried? Anything else I should do? Malwarebytes has blocked those websites (I have real-time protection turned on), but what's going on with Google and Chrome? I made an RTP Detection log today and I will attach that file. Thank you for any advice you can give. RTP Detection.txt
Maurice Naggar Posted September 21, 2022 ID:1534585 Share Posted September 21, 2022 Hi. Here is what is being blocked Domain: ipv4-c327-atl001-ix.1.oca.nflxvideo.net IP Address: 198.38.99.231 Port: 443 Type: Outbound First question: Does this system have any sort of video downloader ? or any sort of multi-media downloader? I mean a add-on application or perhaps a browser extension that someone accepted or added in the past, say, 2 or 3 weeks ?
Maurice Naggar Posted September 21, 2022 ID:1534655 Share Posted September 21, 2022 @Terri569 Hello I will guide you along on looking for remaining malware. Lets keep these principles as we go along. Removing malware can be unpredictable Please don't run any other scans, download, install or uninstall any programs while I'm working with you. Only run the tools I guide you to. Do not run online games while case is on-going. Do not do any free-wheeling web-surfing. The removal of malware isn't instantaneous, please be patient. Cracked or or hacked or pirated programs are not only illegal, but also will make a computer a malware victim. Having such programs installed, is the easiest way to get infected. It is the leading cause of ransomware encryptions. It is at times also big source of current trojan infections. Please uninstall them now, if any are here, before we start the cleaning procedure. Please stick with me until I give you the "all clear". If your system is running Discord, please be sure to Exit out of it while this case is on-going. I would like a report set for review. This is a report only. Please download MALWAREBYTES MBST Support Tool Once you start it click Advanced >>> then Gather Logs Have patience till the run has finished. Upload an archive once it is done. Attach the mbst-grab-results.zip from the Desktop. Please attach mbst-grab-results.zip to your reply The IP block actions by Malwarebytes are keeping the machine safe from potential threats. Maurice Naggar Posted September 21, 2022 ID:1534751 Share Posted September 21, 2022 Just to let you, I will review the reports and then get back with you. Also, just so you know, the blocks on Google today were false positives. Just be sure that you have done ( at least) one Check for Updates since then. Please see https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/290367-malwarebytes-keep-prompting-outbound-connections-blocked/?do=findComment&comment=1534624 See also https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/290378-googlecom-websites-blocked-by-malwarebytes/?do=findComment&comment=1534694BU BUT the block related to h.parrable[.]com and bestteestore[.]net are a concern & I will work with you on those. Terri569 Posted September 21, 2022 Author ID:1534756 Share Posted September 21, 2022 Maurice, thank you so much. I did check for updates on Malwarebytes this morning, and then ran another scan. I also checked to make sure that Malwarebytes Browser Guard was still "on" although it was not, which was disconcerting.
Maurice Naggar Posted September 21, 2022 ID:1534758 Share Posted September 21, 2022 The main focus is, whether now, there are Block notices like this one from your 3:26 pm local that mention "ip": "45.57.103.139" OUTBOUND "port": 443, "url": "ipv4-c032-mia006-ix.1.oca.nflxvideo[.]net" or anything citing parrable[.]com
Maurice Naggar Posted September 21, 2022 ID:1534766 Share Posted September 21, 2022 Here are next steps for our goal to get things in better state:[ 1 ] Please set File Explorer to SHOW ALL folders, all files, including Hidden ones. Use OPTION ONE or TWO of this article Please use this Guide [ 2 ] Start Malwarebytes. Click Settings ( gear ) icon. Next, lets make real sure that Malwarebytes does NOT register with Windows Security Center Click the Security Tab. Scroll down to "Windows Security Center" Click the selection to the left for the line "Always register Malwarebytes in the Windows Security Center". { We want that to be set as Off .... be sure that line's radio-button selection is all the way to the Left. thanks. } This will not affect any real-time protection of the Malwarebytes for Windows 😃. Close Malwarebytes. The goal is to have side-by-side protection of Malwarebytes + MS Defender antivirus [ 3 ] This job will run exclusively and also at the end, it will do a Windows Restart ( reboot). This is intended to run some system checks, selected cleanups, as well as run the Windows System File Checker. Please be sure to Close any open work files, documents, any apps you started yourself before starting this. THIS run will do a Windows RESTART. Once it starts it will auto-close any other running app. We will use FRSTENGLISH.exe on the Downloads folder to run a custom script. The system will be rebooted after the script has run. This custom script is for Terri569 machine only / for this machine only. Please save the (attached file named) FIXLIST.txt to the Downloads folder Fixlist.txt <<< - - - - - Then, Start the Windows Explorer and then, go to the Downloads folder. RIGHT click on FRSTEnglish.exe and select RUN as Administrator and allow it to proceed. Reply YES when prompted to allow to run. If the tool warns you the version is outdated, please download and run the updated version. IF Windows prompts you about running this, select YES to allow it to proceed. IF you get a block message from Windows about this tool...... click line More info information on that screen and click button Run anyway on next screen. on the FRST window: Click the Fix button just once, and wait. PLEASE have lots and lots of patience when this starts. You will see a green progress bar start. Lots of patience. Please attach the FIXLOG.txt with your next reply later, at your next opportunity. [ 4 ] The Microsoft Safety Scanner is a free Microsoft stand-alone virus scanner that can be used to scan for & remove malware or potentially unwanted software from a system. The download links & the how-to-run-the tool are at this link at Microsoft https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/threat-protection/intelligence/safety-scanner-download Look on Scan Options & select FULL scan Then start the scan. Have lots of patience. Once you start the scan & you see it started, then leave it be. Once you see it has started, take a long long break; walk away. Do not pay credence if you see some intermediate early flash messages on screen display. The only things that count are the End result at the end of the run. Again, any on-screen display about repeat 'infection' is not to be relied on. Ignore those. We only rely on the end result that is on the log-report-file. This is likely to run for many hours ( depending on number of files on your machine & the speed of hardware.) The log is named MSERT.log the log will be at Windows\debug\msert.log Please attach that log with your reply.

Solution Maurice Naggar Posted September 24, 2022 Solution ID:1535216 Share Posted September 24, 2022 (edited) Hi Terri. Thanks. At this point, I would like you to make adjustments on Edge browser & also on Chrome browser. First, on the EDGE browser. I would suggest to you to insure (1) that the Reset Sync is enabled ( which should be so already)+ ( 2) Go ahead and delete the Sync Data on this EDGE browser ( using this guide ) Here is the link but IGNORE all repair ads there and the other added froo-froo.https://winaero.com/reset-sync-in-microsoft-edge-and-delete-sync-data/ ( 3) then Exit EDGE browser For Chrome browser: Using just the Chrome browser, signin to your Google account ( if not signed in already) https://chrome.google.com/ Then go to https://chrome.google.com/sync? Scroll down the page, press the "CLEAR DATA" button, to clear the Chrome data from your Google account. Then Exit Chrome. Note that Edge browser code is based on Google Chrome code & that the Sync feature is well known to cause weird friction / repetition of a problem. Added notes: The result from MS Safety Scanner is perfect. The custom-fix script run is good. The System File Checker ( SFC) found corrupt files and successfully repaired them. Terri569 Posted September 24, 2022 Author ID:1535235 Share Posted September 24, 2022 Okay Maurice, I have followed your instructions and make the changes to the Edge and Chrome browsers. I also re-installed Malwarebytes this morning because I got a popup message which I forgot what it said, but I had to use Tool and it indicated I had to reinstall Malwarebytes. Then I ran another scan, and nothing was found.
Maurice Naggar Posted September 24, 2022 ID:1535238 Share Posted September 24, 2022 Thank you for your reply. I do expect that after making the adjustments on Edge and on Chrome that the block notices for "parrable" are gone. As to the notice on a Malwarebytes install, I expect that was to get the latest / newest Release. Tell me, How is the situation today?
Terri569 Posted September 28, 2022 Author ID:1535728 Share Posted September 28, 2022 Maurice, sorry I did not reply to your latest. I've been so busy this week and the computer is working well again - only one pop-up message saying that a website had been blocked. I think you solved the problem. Thank you. Maurice Naggar Posted September 28, 2022 ID:1535761 Share Posted September 28, 2022 Hi. That is good to know. Stick with me for a bit longer. I would recommend getting a readout report as to update status of some key apps. Download SecurityCheck by glax24 from here https://tools.safezone.cc/glax24/SecurityCheck/SecurityCheck.exe and save the tool on the desktop. If Windows's SmartScreen block that with a message-window, then Click on the MORE INFO spot and over-ride that and allow it to proceed. This tool is safe. Smartscreen is overly sensitive. Right-click with your mouse on the Securitycheck.exe and select "Run as administrator" and reply YES to allow to run & go forward Wait for the scan to finish. It will open in a text file named SecurityType.txt. Close the file. Attach it with your next reply. You can find this file in a folder called SecurityCheck, C:\SecurityCheck\SecurityCheck.txt
Maurice Naggar Posted October 5, 2022 ID:1536623 Share Posted October 5, 2022 This system is good-to-go. This here is for tools cleanup. Please download KpRm by kernel-panik and save it to your desktop. right-click kprm_(version).exe and select Run as Administrator. Read and accept the disclaimer. When the tool opens, ensure all boxes under Actions are checked. Under Delete Quarantines select Delete Now, then click Run. Once complete, click OK. A log may open in Notepad titled kprm-(date).txt. I do not need it. Just close Notepad if it shows up. Delete mb-support-1.8.7.918.exe Delete mbst-grab-results.zip on the Desktop Consider using PatchMyPC, keep all your software up-to-date - https://patchmypc.com/home-updater#download Keep your system and programs up to date. Several programs release security updates on a regular basis to patch vulnerabilities. Keeping your software patched up prevents attackers from being able to exploit them to drop malware. I am marking this case for closure. I wish you all the best. Stay safe.
