An unannounced $10 increase at renewal?

Recommended Posts

I've been a customer of Malwarebytes since 2010. Today i received my automatic renewal notice for this year and was surprised by a $10 subscription rate increase. I thought maybe i missed an email announcing the rate increase, but a search through my email history showed no such announcement. I feel this was done underhanded in such a way that most customers would not notice and continue on with business as usual. Well, i've noticed and will be cancelling my subscription. It's not about the money as i feel Malwarebytes would have been more upfront about the subscription rate increase.

Hi,

Thanks for posting in the Malwarebytes for Windows Help forum.

If you are having technical issues with our Windows product, please do the following:

Malwarebytes Support Tool - Advanced Options

This feature is designed for the following reasons:

  • For use when you are on the forums and need to provide logs for assistance
  • For use when you don't need or want to create a ticket with Malwarebytes
  • For use when you want to perform local troubleshooting on your own

How to use the Advanced Options:

Spoiler
  1. Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
  3. Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  4. Navigate to the Advanced tab
  5. The Advanced menu page contains four categories:
    • Gather Logs: Collects troubleshooting information from the computer. As part of this process, Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) is run to perform a complete diagnosis. The information is saved to a file on the Desktop named mbst-grab-results.zip and can be added as an email attachment or uploaded to a forum post to assist with troubleshooting the issue at hand.
    • Clean: Performs an automated uninstallation of all Malwarebytes products installed to the computer and prompts to install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows afterwards. The Premium license key is backed up and reinstated. All user configurations and other data are removed. This process requires a reboot.
    •  Repair System: Includes various system-related repairs in case a Windows service is not functioning correctly that Malwarebytes for Windows is dependent on. It is not recommended to use any Repair System options unless instructed by a Malwarebytes Support agent.
    • Anonymously help the community by providing usage and threat statistics: Unchecking this option will prevent Malwarebytes Support Tool from sending anonymous telemetry data on usage of the program.
  6. To provide logs for review click the Gather Logs button
  7. Upon completion, click OK
  8. A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop
  9. Please attach the file in your next reply.
  10. To uninstall all Malwarebytes Products, click the Clean button.
  11. Click the Yes button to proceed.
  12. Save all your work and click OK when you are ready to reboot.
  13. After the reboot, you will have the option to re-install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows.
  14. Select Yes to install Malwarebytes.
  15. Malwarebytes for Windows will open once the installation completes successfully.

The renewal notice was your notification.

A single license (1 device)went from 39.99 to 44.99 which is $5 increase, What price did you have and how many devices did you have?

You might have been on a lower plan and did not have seen an increase when it went to 39.99. So it hit you all at once this time.

Oh... so it's "Thanks for your auto renewal payment. By the way, your subscription has been increased by $10."?

Like i said, it's not about the money. It's about the way they just slipped in a unannounced price increase on my automatic renewal.

As far as my plan, I have the Malwarebytes Premium (3 devices) and one Malwarebytes Premium Lifetime license for which i was paying $24.95, now $34.99.

The current 3 device cost is 59.99 for a new subscriber, so you are still getting a significant discount.

Repeating myself for the third time.... It's not about the money. It's how they quietly slipped in a price increase on an auto renewal subscription. But you keep glossing over that part.

They got my money this time, but it won't happen again.

No I did not "gloss" over that. I have no info on that as all of mine are lifetime. I was just pointing out your increase is not as bad as it could have been.

A staff member will come back after the holiday to address your your concern about notification.

If you fee that slighted by the "lack of notification" and wish to cancel you may ask for a refund. I would at least turn off auto renewal in your account.

If you have issues doing that,

Please contact our support team at https://support.malwarebytes.com/hc/en-us/requests/new to get help Please submit only one ticket/request. Additional tickets will increase the delay.

Be advised it can take 3-7 weekdays for a response after the automated reply with your ticket number.

Good day, @Rocketdog

I will submit your information to our internal team, but without creating a support ticket there probably will not be any follow-up on the forums. All billing and licensing issues are dealt with on the Help desk. We help with technical issues here on the forums.

For reference I would recommend you disable your auto-renewal if you're going to submit for a refund.

To request a refund, please do as @Porthos said, and click on the link below to fill out the form and have a ticket created for you.

Once your turn comes up in the queue one of our support agents will assist you with a refund.

Thank you
