I have had this issue since June KB updates.

Please do the following so that we may take a closer look at your installation for troubleshooting:

NOTE: The tools and the information obtained is safe and not harmful to your privacy or your computer, please allow the programs to run if blocked by your system.

  • Download the Malwarebytes Support Tool
  • In your Downloads folder, open the mb-support-x.x.x.xxx.exe file
  • In the User Account Control pop-up window, click Yes to continue the installation
  • Run the MBST Support Tool
  • In the left navigation pane of the Malwarebytes Support Tool, click Advanced
  • In the Advanced Options, click Gather Logs. A status diagram displays the tool is Getting logs from your machine

Please save the attached file FIXLIST.TXT to the same location as the Farbar program

C:\Users\shank\Downloads\

fixlist.txt

Then right-click over the following file in your Downloads folder C:\Users\shank\Downloads\FRSTEnglish.exe  and select more and run with Admin rights

Then click on the FIX button

It will produce a log file named FIXLOG.TXT when it completes. Please post back that new log as an attachment on your next reply.

Thank you @shankly1985

Without attempting to dig into this much further. I would highly recommend that you restart your computer more often.

Your logs indicate about a week to two weeks between restarts. Anytime you're having issues with any kind of software update whether it's our program or anyone else you should try restarting the computer first, then trying the update again.

We can write up a generic clean up script to help clean the computer some if you like, but restarting more often would be prudent.

I would also highly suggest you disable FAST START which also causing multiple issues for little gain.

Hello

I switch off my PC daily I think with fast start up enabled its not counting the restarts.

I'll try switching it off.

Do you think that is the issue with updates not working?

Very well could be. Fast Startup basically puts the computer into a hibernation mode. So programs, settings, etc. remain running or as they were when you do a SHUT DOWN.

With Fast Startup OFF then everything actually closes and shuts down for real.

Please try running the computer with Fast Startup off and I'm sure it will help with things in general.

Hello

I tried switching off Fast boot but the update still failed to install. It did however get through the update to 96% before failing unlike before it failed at 30%.

Attached you will see a before I switched off Malwarebytes protection "Failed install" then a after with Malwarebytes protection disabled "Successful install" All my KB windows updates since June 2022 I have had to switch off Malwarebytes otherwise the updates wont install.

If it works for you great. I recommend you continue to do so. It does not work for everyone.

Well, color me surprised. Turning off MB and rebooting worked for me last month but NOT this month. KB5016629 won't install with MB off. As I expected, there is much more going on here and I'm really not sure MB has anything to do with this problem. I've done everything recommended except turning off .NET Frameworks 3.5 or doing the in-place update with the ISO. I'll probably wait this out until MS comes out with a published "fix" or until 22H2 is released.
