doggleboggle Posted July 8, 2022 ID:1523943 Share Posted July 8, 2022 Hello, A few days ago I downloaded Team Fortress 2 on steam for old times sake. When I opened the server browser to see what servers where out the still, Malwarebytes blocked the outbound connection to the IP address above. I closed and uninstalled TF2 and then ran full scans of my computer but found nothing. I didn’t actually join any servers I think the ping from looking at the server browser triggered the block. I just wanted to be sure that this was either a false positive or a real website block and that my computer is safe. There are images attached of the block notification. Thank you for your time, I really appreciate it.
Staff Solution thisisu Posted July 8, 2022 Staff Solution ID:1523954 Share Posted July 8, 2022 Hello, The IP address was carrying out RDP attacks, however, it appears clean now so we are going to remove the block. Sorry for the inconvenience. Regards
doggleboggle Posted July 9, 2022 Author ID:1524075 Share Posted July 9, 2022 Awesome, thank you very much for the response! Since it was a false positive and the scans came back clean I should be good to carry on like normal then I take it? Just want to be sure since I’m paranoid about this stuff. Thank you again! You may encounter this again with different games and different IP's. It must be due to some server(s) the games are trying to connect to. Many games use p2p connections to play online. As long as the games aren't at risk for connecting to malicious content (which they shouldn't be), you should be able to simply exclude the games' executables from Web Protection using the method described under the Allow an application to connect to the Internet section of this support article.
doggleboggle Posted July 9, 2022 Author ID:1524160 Share Posted July 9, 2022 Alright sounds good; err on the side of caution and avoid connecting to any shady servers or any servers Malwarebytes detects as potentially harmful. Thank you Porthos and thisisu for all your help!
