Maurice Naggar Posted June 24, 2022 ID:1521947 Share Posted June 24, 2022 Hello @Noomcat I will guide you along on looking for remaining malware. Lets keep these principles as we go along. Removing malware can be unpredictable Please don't run any other scans, download, install or uninstall any programs while I'm working with you. Only run the tools I guide you to. Do not run online games while case is on-going. Do not do any free-wheeling web-surfing. The removal of malware isn't instantaneous, please be patient. Cracked or or hacked or pirated programs are not only illegal, but also will make a computer a malware victim. Having such programs installed, is the easiest way to get infected. It is the leading cause of ransomware encryptions. It is at times also big source of current trojan infections. Please uninstall them now, if any are here, before we start the cleaning procedure. Please stick with me until I give you the "all clear". If your system is running Discord, please be sure to Exit out of it while this case is on-going. The Malwarebytes is protecting your system from potential harm. Wait for my next reply. I first need to pore over your report set. Stick only to this thread. We do not do group type me-too participation ! One user-case separate for each particular machine.
Noomcat Posted June 24, 2022 Author ID:1521948 Share Posted June 24, 2022 My apologies, I know you said this is not a chat forum etc, but it would be rude if I didn't inform you that I have to go to bed and just didn't respond! It's gone midnight here, so I will have to pick this up again in the morning. Thank you.
Maurice Naggar Posted June 25, 2022 ID:1521955 Share Posted June 25, 2022 Hello @Noomcat What follow are the next steps on the journey to attempt to remove a trojan that is at the source of main issue here. Please set File Explorer to SHOW ALL folders, all files, including Hidden ones. Use OPTION ONE or TWO of this article Please use thuis guide https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/7078-turn-off-show-all-folders-windows-10-navigation-pane.html [ 2 ] IF it becomes needed, you can simply download & save a new copy of the tool FRST64.exe from this link https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-recovery-scan-tool/dl/82/ The FRST64 needs to be saved to either the normal Downloads folder ( or, otherwise, to the Desktop). But it must be saved & to a folder. Remember that. This custom script is for Noomcat only / for this machine only. Be very sure to Save any work-files you have open at this point. Close & Save any open edits, if any. Next, a custom script to do checks & some cleanups. We will use FRST64 to run a custom script. The system will be rebooted after the script has run. This custom script has some specific things, plus some general aspect to help the system overall. Hoping it will not exceed 60 minutes in execute time. NOTE-1: This script will run a scan using System File Checker to check that all Microsoft operating system files are valid and not corrupt and attempt to correct any invalid files. .It will also run the Windows tool DISM to check Windows integrity. It will rebuild the Winsock. It will rebuild Hosts file. NOTE-2: This should run scans with MS Defender antivirus and remove outstanding action items, if any. Please be sure to Close any open work files, documents, any apps you started yourself before starting this. If there are any CD / DVD / or USB-flash-thumb or USB-storage drives attached, please disconnect any of those. Please save the (attached file named) FIXLIST.txt to the same folder where you had saved FRST64 Fixlist.txt <<< - - - - - Then, Start the Windows Explorer and then, go to the folder where FRST64 was saved.RIGHT click on FRST64 and select RUN as Administrator and allow it to proceed. Reply YES when prompted to allow to run. to run the tool. If the tool warns you the version is outdated, please download and run the updated version. IF Windows prompts you about running this, select YES to allow it to proceed. IF you get a block message from Windows about this tool...... click line More info information on that screen and click button Run anyway on next screen. on the FRST window: Click the Fix button just once, and wait. PLEASE have lots and lots of patience when this starts. You will see a green progress bar start. Lots of patience. If you receive a message that a reboot is required, please make sure you allow it to restart normally. The tool will complete its run after restart. When finished, the tool will make a log ( Fixlog.txt) in the same location from where it was run. Please attach the FIXLOG.txt with your next reply later, at your next opportunity. Maurice Naggar Posted June 25, 2022 ID:1522012 Share Posted June 25, 2022 Do a new scan with Malwarebytes for Windows. Do a Check for Update using the Malwarebytes Settings >> General tab. See this Support Guide https://support.malwarebytes.com/hc/en-us/articles/360042187934-Check-for-updates-in-Malwarebytes-for-Windows When it shows a new version available, Accept it and let it proceed forward. Be sure it succeeds. If prompted to do a Restart, just please follow all directions. Let me know how that goes. Next, the Malwarebytes scan. Then click the Security tab. Scroll down and lets be sure the line in SCAN OPTIONs for "Scan for rootkits" is ON 👈 Click it to get it ON if it does not show a blue-color . Next, click the small x on the Settings line to go to the main Malwarebytes Window. Next click the blue button marked Scan. When the scan phase is done, be real sure you Review and have all detected lines items check-marked on each line on the left. That too is very critical. >>>>>> 👉 You can actually click the topmost left check-box on the very top line to get ALL lines ticked ( all selected). <<<< 💢 Please double verify you have that TOP check-box tick marked. and that then, all lines have a tick-mark Then click on Quarantine button. Then, locate the Scan run report; export out a copy; & then attach in with your reply. Maurice Naggar Posted June 25, 2022 ID:1522036 Share Posted June 25, 2022 Thanks for the report. ( 1 ) I would suggest that you Restart Windows. (2) Using FRST64 make new reports for my review. Let's make time and just get a set of fresh reports to see what is running, what is active. Your machine has the FRST64 report tool on the Desktop\New folder. RIGHT-click on FRST64 and select Run as Administrator and tap ENTER. And reply YES to allow to proceed. When the tool opens click Yes to the disclaimer. And be very sure to TICK the box for Addition.txt Press the Scan button. It will make a log (FRST.txt & Addition.txt) in the same directory the tool is run Have patience since the run may take something like 10 or so minutes (less depending on your hardware speed) Close Notepad IF those show up on Notepad. Just please Attach the 2 files FRST.txt +Addition.txt with your next reply.

Maurice Naggar Posted June 25, 2022 ID:1522064 Share Posted June 25, 2022 Hello @Noomcat The last set of FRST reports indicate that Windows system logs show issues with a Windows module "TextInputHost.exe". It is not clear why that is happening. That may perhaps tie in to what you mentioned earlier about "edit pasting". This custom script is for Noomcat only / for this machine only. Be very sure to first Delete the file named "Fixlist.txt" that was saved from before. I have a new one here. Be very sure to Save any work-files you have open at this point. Close & Save any open edits, if any. Next, a custom script to do checks & some cleanups. We will use FRST64 to run a custom script. The system will be rebooted after the script has run. Noomcat Posted June 25, 2022 Author ID:1522094 Share Posted June 25, 2022 Hello I am talking about the Windows Clipboard History App, that's built into Windows OS. https://www.pcworld.com/article/394506/how-to-use-windows-10s-clipboard-history.html Whenever I copy any text, images etc and have the options turned on, which I do, when you press a combination of the "Windows Key+ V" a small window is supposed to open, which enables me to select a particular section of previously copied information and be able to paste, delete or clear the clipboard with ease. It simply doesn't happen, no matter what combo of buttons I press. The Windows Clipboard History just will not open.
Maurice Naggar Posted June 26, 2022 ID:1522146 Share Posted June 26, 2022 Clipboard history gets cleared each time you restart the PC, except for those items you’ve pinned. Look to see that clipboard history is enabled. Windows Settings >>>System >>> Clipboard
Solution Maurice Naggar Posted June 26, 2022 Solution ID:1522147 Share Posted June 26, 2022 Your system may benefit from a "in-place-repair". These next steps can be referred to as a repair-install in place. If this machine is a laptop or notebook, be sure it is connected to power thru a regular power cord to regular electric power. ( that is to say, not be on battery power). 1. Back up your personal data and files to an external hard drive, USB thumb drive. 2. Restart Windows. 3. Ensure you are signed in or have administrator rights to do a repair install 4. Unplug all external peripherals except for the Mouse, Keyboard, and LAN cable before starting. { unplug printers, copyers, fax machines, if any) Download the media creation tool MCT (Click Download tool now) and save it to your computer.https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 or from https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=691209 After it is completely saved. Start the tool and select "Upgrade this PC now." Make sure to select " Keep personal files and apps. " It will take some time to run & complete. Your computer will restart a few times, Make sure you don’t turn off your PC If you see a dark screen at times, do not fret. Just simply move the mouse pointer around the screen or press the space bar to trigger a screen display refresh.
