Windows Defender won't start after uninstalling Malwarebytes.

Recommended Posts

I used Malwarebytes to scan, quarantine, and remove PUPs last night and now Windows Defender won't run after uninstalling Malwarebytes. The files that I've deleted were some folders and registries labeled as Trojan.BitCoinMiner. The only one that I can remember is System32\Tasks\Microsoft\Windows\WOFLE\nssy.

I've followed these guides to no avail:

I've attached what Windows Defender looks like on my end below as well as the output of FRST hoping to get a resolution like the other similar threads before this.

Hello @KeiManson

Please run the following for me.

NOTE: It's very late for me so I'll check back on you again tomorrow morning.

Do you know how to get into Recovery Mode?
Are you comfortable doing commands on the computer or need more detailed instructions?

Please download the following tool

Farbar Service Scanner and run it on the computer with the issue
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-service-scanner/dl/62/

Make sure the following options are checked:

  • Internet Services
  • Windows Firewall
  • System Restore
  • Security Center/Action Center
  • Windows Update
  • Windows Defender

Click "Scan"

It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
Please attach the log to your next reply.
